Y’all do realize he was playing because he told AV he was good to go, right? We’ve seen this with G, Mac, and a few other players that played through injuries here. Stop trying to push narratives with everything.

It shouldn't have been up to Shattenkirk -- management just lets our prized FA signing play on a damaged knee that would've (and did) only deteriorated further?

This sucks and all but it may be a blessing in disguise. Gorton's hand is now forced, there's no longer any justification for being a buyer at the TDL. AV needs to be told by the front office to let them get a long look at DeAngelo from here on out.

Oh please, there are too many times that this comes up. It's all narrative. Girardi was a warrior for playing through everything, but Shattenkirk is dumb. He's not. He showed he's able to gut things out. He gets called soft quite a bit. Playing through a torn meniscus isn't soft.

He had also just signed for big money and wanted to prove something.

Playoffs are one thing. I'd have no issues if he did that during the playoffs, but during the Regular season? Idiot. And so was Girardi.

He hurt the team more than he helped it because he looked like shit for large stretches.

It all depends. If we come out of this West Coast road trip at .500 with no Hayes/Kreider/Shatty/Staal it might not scream SELL to management. We'll have to wait and see how the next couple of weeks play out.

You realize the decision to play wasn't all his? The doctors were very involved, giving him shots/injections, and they reported there was hope it could heal on it's own. He didn't just decide he was playing against the medical staffs advice. Everyone was on board with it. If they didn't think it was a good idea they would have advised him to get the surgery immediately. They didn't.

You shouldn't attempt to characterize other peoples' arguments if you don't understand them.

Unfortunately, I do understand their arguments. The argument is that a draft pick regardless of who it is, is better than a roster player who is producing, and because that roster player is a UFA, it is better to "sell" them and miss the playoff revenue for a shot in the dark that the draft pick will be a good player than can be an NHL caliber player quickly.

The problem with that argument is, unless that pick is a Top 10 pick, the chances the pick will pay immediate dividends is very small.

Look, if there was to sell a player for a HIGH PICK, yes, makes sense, but to sell for a low first or more likely a low second, you aren't just losing the current season, you're packing in the next few seasons as well. Then you are playing the lottery.

It would explain a lot with his lackluster performances as of late if he's been injured for awhile..

Actually, people who couldnt admit he stunk and suggested putting him on the top pair with a torn meniscus should feel really stupid now.
I mean if your ideal first pair is trotting Holden/Kampfer around, then by all means keep supporting defending this coaches personnel decisions.

Seems that his play starting to take a dip coincided pretty directly with when the effects of the cortisone shot he got started to wear off:

Shattenkirk:

"It's been going on since around the end of September into early October. We did a cortisone shot before the season which helped and started to wear off right around 8-10 weeks or so. We tried another PRP injection over the bye week and it's just the inflammation and everything started to creep back in. It's been going on all season, something we have been trying to progressively attack and it hasn't responded the way we hoped it would.

No, you clearly don't understand the argument many people are making, but I'm not going to argue with you. You can believe what you want. The only thing I will say is that players can be traded for other players too.

Oh and now AV is going to be absolved of putting him and Skjei together which was still f***ing stupid. That's fun.
