Okay thanks. Phew.
what does Nylander do better?
faster-nope
bigger stronger-nope
compete level-nope
better defensively-nope
affordability-nope
Nylander is all flash, he has a marginally better shot, but not good enough to score from his couch in Sweden! Trade him for help on the D, he's EXPENDABLE, Mathews makes every player he plays with better, Nylander rides on AM's coattails, put him with average players and he's nothing special. All this AND he and his Reps are difficult to deal with, move on Dubas, move on..............

Kapanen all day every day. I’ll take the guy who will battle and who is built for playoff hockey.

Nylander is a fraud and wilts when the chips are down. He plays scared. He and Jake Gardiner are cut from the same cloth.

Lol. Take all of the other noise out of the equation. One guy plays like a gutless, coward and the other plays like a man.

The Nylander worshippers are hilarious. Leafs are clowning Nylander right now. He looks like a total joke. Leafs keep on chugging as does Kap.

Is this a parody account?

so you think Nylander's is: faster, stronger, bigger, better defensively, and more affordable than Kappy, interesting..............
Im calling this part a fail

"Nylander is all flash, he has a marginally better shot, but not good enough to score from his couch in Sweden! Trade him for help on the D, he's EXPENDABLE, Mathews makes every player he plays with better, Nylander rides on AM's coattails, put him with average players and he's nothing special."

Back to back 60 point seasons. All flash though!
20 goal seasons, marginally better shot though!
Can Matthews score from his couch on Arizona? No I guess he should be traded
If he is this bad? Why would anyone trade a D man for him? Didnt think that one through now did you!
Kapanen hasnt taken his spot yet. He's expendable though!
Matthews make players better. Kapanen isnt very good either then!
Nylander still produced with Kadri. Nylander rides on AM's coattails though!
Nylander played with players that arent in the NHL anymore like Greening, and produced really well. Put him with average players and he's nothing special though!

we're seeing just how expendable Nylander is right now, let lone in the playoffs when he disappears.

Matthews is expendable too. He didnt show up in the playoffs either.
Wierd the Leafs look worse defensively with Nylander out of the lineup.
Also Nylander had a great playoffs against Washington. People like you wont mention it.

Nylander as much i love him seems to be only great when Matthews is great

there are 2 wing spots on the top line.

Yep, and apparently both Kapanen and Nylander have a longstanding desire to play with one another at the NHL level (I think they may even be roommates?).

Either way, I hate arguing Leaf player vs Leafs player. This discussion is as tiresome as Nylander vs Marner or Kadri vs Bozak

Anybody who thinks Kapanen is in the same league as Nylander lacks hockey IQ. Kapanen is a good hustle player with speed, but he is nowhere near the talent Nylander is. I've seen at least 4-5 situations so far where Kapanen has been set up point blank, and shoots into the goalies chest. Nylander would have scored on many of those. Nylander has his faults but he is an elite talent with lots of upside.

We don't have to choose, although personally I was always of the opinion that KapGod was underrated AF and Willie a bit overrated.

Although Willie has proven more I never thought:

"Oh yeah Willie should be on the 1st line and Kap should be buried for plugs like Lolmarov, Martin and Moore"

Kind of off topic but would anybody be opposed to giving Kapanen the Jarnkrok deal? You would have to move Brown next year but Kapanen long term on the cheap could pay off big time for us.

Kapanen had said he wanted to try LW to make himself more valuable at the NHL level, so why not give him a shot? sometimes it works out better, Ovi, Lupul, even guys like Leivo play better on their off wing.

Kapanen-Matthews-Nylander OMGGGG
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Marleau-Kadri-Brown
Leivo-Lindholm-Johnsson(both wingers play better on their off-wing)
Ennis-Gauthier
melander won't be up to 1rst line speed till christmas

i hightly doubt babs messes with the 1rst line if it is clicking

3rd line needs a boost

Guys, Matthews isn’t going to shoot 50% all year. Right now that line looks good, but the real test is how it looks when Matthews sh% comes down to earth to his usual 17%
Washington's 4th line player Smith-Pelly. Solid player for his role.

Apparently he got 7 goals last year.

Then he got 7 goals in the playoffs, including a big one in the clinching game in third period.

Whatever Nylander had done with Matthews, the obvious fact it is no match for what Kapenan and Marleau has done with Matthews.

Why?

Why? My wild guess is that there are two speedy wingers who try to beat you wide, along with doing the dirty work of digging the puck out of the corners to feed the slot, where Matthews is.

Back to Pelly-Smith. Why mention him?

He was able to raise his game. Whatever the reason, he was able to raise his game.

Matthews was able to raise his game with his two new wingers.

And all we can talk about is shooting percentage.

Some of us will look on the bright side. Hyman is doing well on another line.

Kapanen is really making a case for taking Nylander’s job on Matthews wing. And by extension making the case for a big raise.

Although the sample size is very small. The Kapanen-Matthews chemistry is not fluke. Matthews is feeding off Kapanen's energy, Kapanen is a pass first winger moreso than Nylander. Nylander is more skilled but Kapanens work ethic is creating more chances. I like Kapanen more than Matthews with Nylander. U have to look at this combo for at least 30 games. Its been 5 games but i have not seen Matthews and Nylander looked this dangerous. Nylander will not repace Marleau if he is signed. Sign and Trade Nylander clearly is the right move.

Kapanen has made Nylander expendable. U cant break up this Kapanen-Matthews combo. Kapanen has 4 multi point games in the last 5 games paired with Matthews.

I wonder if Dubas has reached out to Kapanen's agent to sign him to a 3 yr deal with a 3 million dollar cap hit ish? Kapanen looks like a 70 point man with this chemistry.

Obviously Nylander wins on skill.

But man...Kappy is such a dynamic player. The way Babs has groomed him to be a defensive specialist and PKer too, now he's a guy you can throw out in the last minute to protect a lead.

Any other player in the league a point per game so far that doesn't have any power play time? (Ok... not "any". Kapanen officially has 5 seconds of power play time this season.)

Nylander is undoubtedly a better passer and power-play specialist. Just like his pops

Everything else, i actually prefer this years Kapanen over last years Nylander at 5 on 5. it keeps Hyman off of Matthews wing and gives AM more control over the play.

Nylander will have to earn his stripes when he gets signed. I'm not even sure i would give him Marleaus spot for reasons already stated.
