I didn’t listen so if he said his peace about Chuck and is disappointed then I don’t think there’s anymore to it than that.

I was just saying it’s literally part of his job to get us excited about this team. I can’t take everything he says at face value. He’s actually probably more candid than most while he is still very pro-Canes.

The only thing that’s going to piss him off to the point of leaving is either someone higher up telling him how to do his job (I hope that’s a highly unlikely scenario) or TD decides he’s not worth the $.

Agreed with the above. I do think he’s the most publicly fair with the team of basically any employee though, especially given his role. I thought the juxtaposition of last year’s “let’s slow expectations” to this year’s “these moves are very exciting”, especially to the degree he talked up a few of them, was interesting and notable.

joe ovies had a good point earlier: radio has changed, it's not good enough to clock in, put in your 4-5 hours, clock out, you have to be a "content producer ".which is what mike maniscalco does for the team the podcast, player interviews, community outreach and team representation at events. that's what radio pbp guys do now in addition to their gameday duties. chuck didn't do that outside stuff for his broadcast. it seems he wasn't interested abd the opportunity passed him by. he'll get hired by someone if he really wants it.

i also heard he's a union guy (broadcasters have their union too, so do refs), no chance he'd have accepted a pay cut

thanks for the memories chuck. even if they weren't all so great.

And I get it, Kaiton is one of the last anchors to Hartford, but damn, its been 22 years since we were there. Its well past time to move on if the financial benefit isn't there anymore. Especially when that money can be better spent elsewhere. Its sad to see him go, but it was time. Especially when anyone with a valid login can stream the game on the road through the FoxSports app, which I did multiple times last year when I was away.

I think this is where I finally come down on the Hartford connection. Yes, it’s neat. But Chuck is 66 years old, which is considered past retirement age in most professions. He’s a radio play-by-play guy, which is a job that probably won’t even exist for most teams in 5-10 years.

If he has no audience, and the broadcast has little to no financial value to the organization, why shouldn’t he accept a pay cut? That’s the reality the rest of us live in. How long we’re they going to keep doing this while losing gobs of money? Till he was 70? 75? 80?

In theory they could have made him Director of Good Times or some such nonsense, but he made it pretty clear in that article that he wanted nothing other than a PBP job at the same salary he’s been making for decades. That’s not realistic, it’s like your grandpa demanding a living-wage salary to open an elevator door.

It sucks to witness it happening, but this is very much a case of time moving on and needing to let go of the past.

I get why people are upset but the sound of his voice was like nails on a chalkboard for me. I'm pretty indifferent.

Jeff O'Neill can go pound sand though. What does that ***clown know about anything
O'Neill has rarely mentioned the Canes since he left, except for negative comments. Never anything good. He must have hated every minute he was here. Jerk.

While I love Chuck as a personality and love his call, and I'm sad to see the era end, frankly this does make sense. The radio medium is next to dead, and I haven't listened to a full game of Chuck's since college, streaming over NHL.com. Once video streams became good enough, I stopped listening to him and moved to crappy 236p video streams. These days I use a FSG login to watch at home and on the road. The radio broadcast simply no longer fills a particularly valuble function. Thanks to Kaiton and all of his time with the franchise. It's been a good run.

We keep using this 2000 number they’ve given us. I’m not arguing it’s a false number as I have no idea, I just know they’re giving it to us packaged with a potentially unpopular subject in a way that softens the blow.

Is this an accurate number? How do they quantify it? You can make numbers look anyway you want them to sometimes.

I agree it’s a medium that’s falling off the radar and maybe this was happening no matter what, I just don’t want to be fed bs.

Based on what we’ve been fed, 2,000 is generous benefit of the doubt, as what was reported is “less than 2,000”.
