That aside, he also got 23 very valuable games of experience to build off of for his off-season strength and conditioning and skills training plan. He knows exactly what to expect now. Not only did he get 23 games in, for the most part he played pretty well and was one of our better producers during that stretch so he also has that confidence to build off of too.

There’s a lot of “good news” about Roy heading into next season.

They're likely going to play one of Colorado, Dallas or Vegas in the first round and could easily be knocked out. Carbo probably flinches every time he see it.
If I was that far back as a forward trying to block a shot I'd be doing weird contortions too reflexively.
I see Suzuki doing it too on occasion and my heart is in my mouth.

If you're going to let the puck hit you at maximum velocity like that, at least try to turn so you're not facing it and tuck your hands close to your chest. The last thing you want is to block it with your hands, that's just insanity.

At the end of the day, after the first line there's only so much there. I don't expect Newhook or RHP to shine in these circumstances. But it's better than being on the 4th line.

The blocking meantality has completely changed. I think players are now taught to stay on their feet and in the shooting lane, whereas carbo would sprawl.

I think you are already vulnerable once you have clogged a shooting lane, but some players may compound the situation based on instinct, and im not sure how you can unteach instinct.

In carbo's time, only the crazy mofos would block shots, but today, alot fewer get a free pass for not getting in shooting lanes, and so you are also naturally going to more guys hurting themselves, and guys who don't study that craft as carefully as a blocking specialist.

Point still stands: the team was cold. Pointing out any one player that isn't on the first line for their production doesn't make sense - espcially someone who's been playing 4th line minutes.
