He just passed through waivers where he coulda been had for free. I understand there's contract limits and what not, but if anybody wanted him they likely woulda found a way to to acquire him then. The only other thing I can think of is flipping him for somebody like Honka who ALSO wants out and has ALSO requested a trade. Both former first rounders, similar age, similar potential and both need a change of scenery.

Keep seeing this argument, but I think people might not understand exactly how waivers work. If you were to pick him up off of waivers, sure he'd be free, but you'd have to keep him on your NHL roster. Now that he's cleard waiver, he doesn't have to clear again for 30 days, so if you trade for him and can send him down. It's asset management.

Karill (sp) Kabanov. That said, I'm pretty sure his attitude issues were significantly overblown and he was just a bit overrated as a prospect in general. From what I can recall, he was actually a pretty great kid that got a bit of a bad rap. But I can't remember the specifics of why I think that.

I worked closely with the Wildcats organization (Kabonovs junior team in his draft year) and believe me, his attitude issues were far from overblown.

He simply thought he was better than everyone else, including coaches. He routinely did his own thing and never listened to one word they said, at times directly going against their orders.

When he came back from injury, he went from a top line player to a 3rd liner as Moncton loaded up at the deadline and he hated it.

Stories from coaches of him sulking and complaining to the coaches that he can’t score with such bad players on his line.

It all culminated with game 1 of the 1st rd of the playoffs. Moncton was down 2-0 and Kabanov just took a stupid retaliatory penalty and then sulked about it on the bench when the coach scolded him. This led to David Savard (of the CBJ) audibly ripping into Kabonov so loudly that it could be heard from the 2nd level of the stands in a 4500 person crowd.

Was revealed that he was sent to the room after, and the team told him to pack his bags and that he’s not welcome around the team the rest of the playoffs. Moncton went on to win that game 6-3 and then the league championship.

Kind of like Merkley, never a good sign when a contending team essentially kicks you off the team when you are one of the most talented players.

Kabanov, well after his career was over, was very open about how poor his attitude was and regrets the way he was.

Didn't he develop a pretty bad drinking problem? I heard stories that he literally would drink by himself at his billets, and it was an open secret among drafting teams. Pretty sure Gare Joyce said something about it when he posted here.

Ho-Sang's attitude issues are legitimate and far from overblown too. He got kicked out of multiple billets in Windsor, and by the end was living at Boughners house.

While true, this really undermines his whole argument that he should be traded because he deserves to be in the NHL. If in fact anyone wants to acquire him (which is hard to imagine at this point) their first move will be to do the exact thing which sparked his trade demand in the first place.

This kid's constant crying reminds me of Casey Pierro-Zabotel, that Pens prospect who never made the jump but thought he deserved it.
when has he whined? you really comparing a ECHL player to a guy who has put up solid stats in the NHL and the AHL? Isles have done wrong by Ho-Sang and he is justified in his anger

He doesn't seem to take criticism very well. For MOST players, if they're clearly not ready for the big show, they'll go back to the minors, work on their game (not to mention their maturity) and prove to team management that they're deserving of a call up. Most competent teams would acknowledge this and the player would make the team full-time.

Ho-Sang, on the other hand, appears unwilling to wait for his turn and prefers to lash out at the organization that drafted him. Not the best look for a young unproven/unpolished prospect with a rather large chip on his shoulder.

do you know he hasn't worked on his game? and he was most definitely deserving of a call up over the last few years when the management passed him over, the fact he most definitely deserved to make the team over Johnston, Kuhnackl and Dal Colle who were all given a roster spot over him last week I am sure was the nail in the coffin that he realized there is no way he was going to be given a roster spot on the Islanders for "some" reason

Seems like his on-ice play isn't the only issue being considered here though.

If the Isles think (read: if Lou thinks) he'd be a bad seed in the locker room, why bring him into the fold just because he's scoring more goals with Bridgeport? Yzerman saw the same sense of entitlement with Drouin and shipped him out. I expect the same to play out here with Ho-Sang.

Yep. Multiple stories of him not coming home until 3am being very under the influence, and not always just with alcohol.

Glad he’s somewhat turned his life around, but these issues players have in junior rarely turn out to good NHL careers

Lou: “We tried to give you away. Nobody would take you for free.”

JHS: “Then I demand a trade!”

What a farce. Like he thinks Lou is supposed to take on a bad contract or package an asset with JHS to move him?

Welp, somebody doesn’t understand NHL contract limits. It’s a common thing to let player clear waivers and trade for him with a same player situation.

Its not a common thing for actual NHL players. Dress it up however you’d like.

It would be worth the gamble for the Habs imo. Maybe add conditional picks based on nhl games played. Both guys could use a fresh start in new organizations

Well to be clear ....I doubt hosang wants to be traded to play on another ahl team. He wants to be a part of an NHL roster. There are teams around the league that can use a talented player. He's just lazy as f***.
