He became irrelevant so quick. But seeing him in the limited time that I see him, his skill is still there.

Like others have said, there's a talent issue around him

It's just an off season, you'll see how awesome he will be in his next contract year.

Are those rumblings during the signing time of him not wanting to be a jacket but being told to do it because of his wife true ?

he got the money but the spotlight is still on him with the amount of people laughing at his choice,

but he laughs in the end as he's richer than anyone here
He’s laughed at my hardcore hockey fans, but I doubt the vast majority of people in Columbus even know who he is.

He’s paid a ton of money to just play hockey without any concern on his compete level at a national media level. The Johnny hockey dream

The drop off is pretty large but may not be as huge as it seems.
Calgary years he had 210 goals and 609 points in 602 games.
CBJ years he has had 32 goals and 128 points in 153 games.
I think his CBJ years drop off in goals looks much worse than his drop off in points.
League scoring has absolutely exploded the last two years. It's not even close

It has gone up in the last 2 years but not even close?

NHL Annual Average Scoring:

24: 3.11 goals
23: 3.18 goals

22: 3.14 goals
21: 2.94 goals
20: 3.02 goals
19: 3.01 goals

Is there any surprise in this?

Out of 11 season seasons, only 3 was he a PPG player. One of those was the 115 point campaign. The other 2 were 99 and 84.

Removing his 1 game stint in 13/14 and his career season average is 73.8
Remove that 115 point season, that goes down to 69.2
You remove his 99 point season he is at 65.5

He is exactly where HE should be. He's a good player, but it is always others who elevated him, not the other way around.

From what I heard yes. He apparently didn't make the decision until the final 12 hours. The night before he was going back and forth. And he did it because his wife chose Columbus because It's a great location for her profession (nurse).

I know heh

If you taking their best 3 seasons out, a star player would become a 60-70 guy.

Amazing theory

Technically the "vast majority" of people here in Columbus also don't know who Cucho Hernandez or Marvin Harrison Jr. are. They'll know the Jackets, the Crew, or the Buckeyes if you mention the teams, but they don't really keep track of names.

damn thats sad. His wife can be a nurse till she in her 60s. Johnny Hockey's playing days are highly numbered like any pro athlete.

I took 2 seasons. The third was a 1 game 1 point stint....but hey, he was PPG there so I guess that was one of his best, eh? Guess we gotta count it.

Point stands though. And multiple people in this thread have said the same thing:

Others made HIM better, not the other way around.

Hilarious contract to give for a midget who disappears in playoff hockey and routinely takes seasons off. CBJ is so lucky to have finally got rid of Kekäläinen.
