No. What is Mickey Mouse is having a coach or a player get to treat ejections and penalties as optional.

So in your (and everyone who thinks what Torts did was acceptable) world, players can refuse to leave the ice and go to the penalty box if they (gasp!) disagree with a call? Should the refs back down and revoke their call for every player who throws a tantrum? How long do we wait for the coach or player to leave the bench when tossed? 10 minute delay? 20? Just take an extra intermission until poor little coach agrees to leave? And this can't just apply to Torts or the Flyers. Every player and every coach can ignore the refs rulings anytime they think a call is bad!!

If I was the NHL, I would have suspended Tortorella the rest of regular season and that would guarantee that he or any other coach would never pull that stunt again.

Can't have players and coaches thinking they have an option whether to comply with an official's decision.
Wes McCauley is a prima donna. There isn’t a camera he doesn’t like, he is one of the worst referees in the league & his sole purpose is his attempt at “entertainment”. Torts probably did what every other coach probably wanted to do with these uber sensitive joke of referees.

epic that you can physically assault another player with your stick and only pay 1/10th of this fine lol

On the flipside, you also get suspended 10 games for simply stepping off the bench to join a fight. And your coach gets suspended and team gets fined.

Context matters.

Then why did the players say they liked him the most in a poll?

Makes sense he’s suspended after that

Were the penalties before that bad? Or was it Torts being Torts?

Either way, funny to watch. Should give him time to rest his hand

There was a time when Chris Pronger was playing in Philly and refused to go to the penalty box and just skated around in his own zone with the referee following him... no extra penalty was given...it's about respect.

No to absolve Torts, but there was one ref in particular who had a chip on his shoulder that night also and gets away scot free.

Did Tortorella come off as immature here? Yes, but it's also at least somewhat understandable in that it's largely a response to the continuous petulant immaturity consistently exhibited by referees and league officials. NHL refs have always steadfastly rejected the idea that they should be held accountable for their actions (which is basically the definition of immaturity) and throw the most pathetic tantrums whenever anyone dares to suggest that they're anything less than infallible.

Hockey is boring, bring back some colour into the game. We need more coaches to go ballistic like Playfair and Ftorek. This is actually pretty tame for Torts.

Robbie Ftorek only got one game and 10k fine for throwing the bench on the ice for what it’s worth.

LOL we had the exact same thought at the same time! :eek3:
