I know Jesse hasn't been good enough. But I also think Oilers bringing him to NA too soon messed him up a bit, and that last season his hip injury was severely hampering him. I truly believe he may be able to turn into a good top 6 player in another team.
Sometimes people just don't get along with each other, and I find it funny how untouchable McDavid is to you. Maybe he did not deal with Jesse the best possible way as an inexperienced captain. Saying that is not possible because McD is some kind of saint and god is just plain stupid.
And then his breakfast was cold, and then he stepped in a puddle on the way to the rink, and then the trainer didn't clean his equipment the way he likes, then coach didn't coach him in Finnish so he couldn't understand, and then Connor said something mean to him, and he actually wanted #99 but they wouldnt let him so he had to settle for #98 and it's really thrown off his game.
Plenty of players around the league and on the Oilers have overcome missteps in their development to become good players. If Jesse can't recognize that while the team may have mishandled him at some points, he also owns a good portion of the blame for his lack of development. If he doesn't take ownership of his play then a change of scenery won't do him any good and he will be playing in Finland permanently sooner rather then later.
McDavid is about as close to a Saint/God in the hockey world as you can get. The guy is a consumate pro sports athlete and any player, coach and executive around the league will tell you that. He has captained almost every team he's played on since he was a child. He's had to deal with everything that comes along with being a star athlete since he was 16 years old.
Again by trying to connect Jesse's failures as a player to McDavid's ability to be a captain you are just making excuses for this young man. The Oilers are trying to work with him, he has the option to compete for a spot on the Oilers and there are spots available in the Oilers top 9 and next to guys like McD, Drai, RNH and all he has to do is be better then other younger players or the likes of guys like Chiasson, Kassian, Gagner, Granlund, Archibald and so on. But the Oilers have also been supportive of Jesse returning to play in Europe if he feels more comfortable. If he can't make it here where the competition is relatively weak and the management group is being pretty accommodating, then he doesn't have a shot of doing it on another NHL club.
