You mean sticking him as the center for Hall? People say this and than completely fabricate JPs experiences in the NHL up to this point. Can you imagine where Drai would be right now if the team forced him into a 3rd/4th line role oh I think I remember that being his first year here he failed pretty miserably and got sent down. I'm not saying its anything close to an automatic that JP would flourish if he got an actual extended look in the top 6 (meaning at the very least a 10 game sample where he isn't demoted immediately after his first couple of shifts like Mclellan and Hitchcock both like to do) but continuing to judge him on not being able to produce with guys like Cave/Brodziak as his centermen while playing 8 minutes or under is just dumb.
What are you talking about? Do you watch games? Drai sucked his first year cuz he could only skate 15 feet without being gassed, and was 100ft behind every play on the backcheck. He also folded like rice paper on the boards. He improved his skating 10 fold and developed a strength to protect the puck that looks Kopitar-esque. Drai also creates space and plays, which gave him success w/ Hall
Infact, I believe it was Oates who commented just how amazing Drai's improvement in skating that summer was. He mentioned how extremely rare that drastic of improvement/change happens, and credited that with his current success to do be able to do other things
Jesse has no problem skating around the ice physically, but has not improved 1 iota on the boards or in strength, continually falling and dropping his stick. he also gets rid of the puck as if it's kryptonite
Your assessment is completely off base, but go ahead, keep piling up coaches to blame, as Hitch is yet another who is moving on from his incompetence.
