So - if Blash goes...Disco Dan will be our new guy...Not sure if he can do any better, but sometimes it works for a while.

The coach has been a highlight of the year for me.

He's one of our better prospects.

I agree Howard is not the issue I would hope for a better goalie in the future but in the list of fixing problems there many many issues ahead of him and if there were a real team in front of them he would probably hold up pretty well actually. Don't get me wrong I would like him to be a part of changing out the old team for a new core but Howard isn't even in the discussion of top priorities to address

Scratching Chow for Hicketts another genius move
Hicketts was solid vs Edmonton.

For example with Cholo in the Ottawa game.
On the Borowiecki goal, Hronek got caught pinching.
Larkin came back to cover the guy with the puck.
Cholowski completely misread the play and instead of covering the open wing where Borowiecki was skating, he stayed as the 3rd playing starring at the puck carrier.

Pageau shorthanded goal.
Cholowski is pressured on the blue line, and sends a panicked pass to Mantha.
Pass is deflected by Pageau, Mantha fails to take control of bouncing puck.

Just two Cholo errors that lead to goals against. That entire game was a Cholo trainwreck.

I love the guy, but sometimes, just gotta be honest when a performance is that poor.

His performance isnt any worse than daley or bowey yet chow always seems to get the short end of the stick w blashill.

One can be scratched or sent down without a chance of losing them or whatever. One is a player the Wings have a vested interest in him learning the game and learning that he has to keep improving.

So many times when people complain about "he's not doing any worse than X" they miss the corrolary to that. He's not doing any better than those guys. He's not giving you a strong motivation to play him besides "he's young" and that's an awful reasoning to make a decision about playing time on. He makes bad mistakes, he should be scratched while they go over them in practice. It would be something that if he made the right read and it was a phsyical error he made, you don't pull him out. But Cholo made mental errors. He made wrong reads and wrong decisions. Those are different than a physical error of just getting beat by a skater.

Think of it in terms of Michigan vs Penn State. At the end, Ronnie Bell dropped a tying TD. Beautiful throw, absolutely should have been caught. But he made the physical mistake of not securing the catch. He didn't get disciplined or benched or looked away from. However, if the play went south because he ran the wrong route or didn't look up at the break of his route or whatever, he'd have been reamed.

The types of mistakes that you live with when you play kids are the "didn't react quick enough" type of mistakes. The ones where you can tell it is because they lack experience, not because they miss doing something that should be second nature to them.

Thing is though, Cholowski is definitely playing better than both Daley and Bowey. Daley is really slow this year and making bad plays a lot. Bowey is doing next to nothing out there.

Gerrard Gallant has one more year, so his contract is due to expire the same time as Blash's. I'm sure it's just a coincidence but I'd love to see him back in Detroit.

Nope, we're not gonna hire Gallant. We will pump the tires of whatever ****ing chucklenuts is currently coaching in GR and treat him as the next savior and then he'll come up, we will lose 3 games for every one we win and then there will be some new coach in GR who we will clamor for.

And Larkin will get traded to Chicago and win them like 8 Stanley Cups and Dan Cleary will come back and be the PP coach and we'll set a record with a 0.2% PP efficiency with the only goal we score being one where it only happens because a guy on the other team shoots it into Mantha's face and shatters it so we score a PP goal, but we lose Mantha for multiple seasons.

There is no happiness to be found in the Cass Corridor. Hundreds of Wings fans will go there and cry in the empty parking lots that were to be part of the 50 block renovation that the Ilitches just couldn't seem to get to.

From LeBrun

  • Detroit’s Jeff Blashill signed a two-year extension late last season with the Red Wings but my understanding is that it’s a one-year deal plus a club option for Year 2. So this season is the only guaranteed part of things.

Blash isn't back next season unless we make the playoffs. It isn't a matter of if, it is only a matter of when. Hopefully that allows some posters to sleep better at night and to move on to other topics of discussion.

And Kyle Quincy will take Yzerman's job as GM and hire Sean Avery as our social media expert and we'll start putting ads on our jerseys and change our logo to something more hip with an emoji in it.
