I agree with everything in this post, other than the "decent run of playoff games". Every JV die hard said he would show up big time in the playoffs. He showed up for one game, absolutely invisible in the others.
Jake showed up to the bubble over weight, and not fit, like he always does when given time off. He needs close monitoring of his diet and weight. Keep the guy, but make sure he’s monitored off ice.

The law of diminishing returns. How many chances are you going to give him? It's time to move on, although really that was last year or the year before that.

Heinen for Roussel with 200K retained is the final offer, take it or leave it.

Just imagine if the Nucks could get out from under a plug like Roussel.

Roussell and Virtanen for Heinen, Backes and a 4th round pick

Then flip Heinen at the TDL for a 3rd

What in his game changed last year from previous years?

What did he do different, apart from having the puck enter the net when he shot his wrister from low to medium scoring areas?

He didn't increase his shot volume.
He didn't drive the net.
He still couldn't defend.
He still couldn't cycle the puck.
He still couldn't get open to be set up for a shot.
He had less take aways and hits and more giveaways than the year previous.

Sorry. I am just frustrated with the talk how he (yet again) had turned a corner last year.

It was a mirage. We should have cashed out via trade last summer. Instead we are now looking to get rid of his bloated contract.

Seems like a guy who needs a mentor and a lot of coaching.

Doesn't seem like our staff is up to the task.

It's clear Jake could be, and has been, a good middle 6 player under the right circumstances.

Good teams turn these kind of guys into useful assets bad teams dump them for nothing or bad assets.

So agree. In Boston we would likely see a much leaner, meaner, and hard on pucks Jake. Some guys, like Jake, just aren’t internally motivated. They need, like you point out, the team’s help.
I don’t get why our club isn’t good at helping certain players.

Because our coaching is weak.

Look at Pittsburgh and how they turned Colby Armstrong into a piece to acquire Marian Hossa.

Instead we take a guy like Jake and turn him into a cap dump (despite him likely being one of our three best bottom six players).

When we do stuff like Kesler -> Bonino -> Sutter -> ????
