Agree with Dave Ayres. Safest move is to still re-sign Markstrom as long as it's a reasonable price, ride the tandem through next season, and decide in a year which one you want to protect from Seattle.
High pressure, playoff games that the team HAD to win...as opposed to playing Ottawa in December....yes, yes I am!Are you using the 2,2 games Demko has played, as a sample for forming your opinion on the two goalies?
Why not just get rid of the some Cap.....by NOT signing Markstrom and sill have a capable, younger replacement? You keep markstrom and you use Demko who has played insane as a trade piece to get rid of some cap before the expansion draft is my idea
Marky’s new contract must not include expansion draft protection. If it does, then Demko is traded.Agree with Dave Ayres. And if Demko goes down with an injury, you have Domingue or Dipietro in net. Do you think Canucks can win many games with them? Why not just get rid of the some Cap.....by NOT signing Markstrom and sill have a capable, younger replacement?

and after this game?
We can’t be competitive long term paying a goalie anything over 5mill IMHO

I'd be VERY surprised if Markstrom got NMC protection from the Canucks. They've made a point to not give that to anyone, no team wants their hands tied like that.
alex edler, tyler myers, michael ferland. 3 players all signed last year all with NMCs.

None for when it matters though, the expansion draft. Only three goalies league wide currently have expansion draft protection, Price, Bobrovsky and Vasilevsky.

ah i get what you're saying.
id put money on markstrom having it no matter where he signs.
Edler was a no brainer as he's a career Canuck and could have easily squeezed them for more term.alex edler, tyler myers, michael ferland. 3 players all signed last year all with NMCs.
And Demko can easily be any of the hundreds of goalies that never could play a large volume of games in the NHL.
What is your point?

Demko has 37 NHL games under his belt in total. And you're ready to go all-in on that?[/QUOTEY
Yep....and sign one of the MANY goalie UFA's that will be on the market and therefore, be reasonably priced, as a backup.
You think Markstrom would sign without the guarantee of ED protection?Agree with Dave Ayres. Safest move is to still re-sign Markstrom as long as it's a reasonable price, ride the tandem through next season, and decide in a year which one you want to protect from Seattle.
Only matter is that it was confirmed that Myers doesn’t need to be protected for the ED. I would imagine the same goes for Ferland. Since his nmc is only good through the 20-21 season the Canucks could have worded the contract that it expires 24 hours after the end of the NHL season for example.alex edler, tyler myers, michael ferland. 3 players all signed last year all with NMCs.
