Here is the issue. Who has shown any chemistry w/ Panarin besides Strome? It feels like our 2nd line is a perpetual black hole and there’s only one constant.

CK-MZ-KK: great line
AL-FC-KK: great line
CK-VT-JV or VK: real good potential
Panarin and ??? One dud after another

Mika is the only center who can carry Panarin in all 3 zones, but it hurts the depth immensely to play them together. We also need to reunite Kreider-Mika-Kakko and not touch again for 5 years lol. KK is playing the Buchnevich role weve been begging one of the kids to run with for years.

Kreider & Mika were a matchup nightmare down low during the Metro playoffs last year, throw another big body like Kakko into that mix and you have a line that can defend and score with anyone. They need to find a way to make Panarin work with someone and I really hope it's not trading a first for Kane. Still think Tarasenko is the right mix of veteran presence and finishing ability for that line, whether it's Chytil or Trocheck on it.

Kreider needs to go back on the Zibanejad and Kakko line when he's ready. That line is too good to break up.
Yup. Laf had 3 games up there and not only did he not produce he just didn’t have much going on at all. Was a huge opportunity for him and he didn’t take it.

Rangers have some days off, so hopefully Kreider will be ready to go next game.

Very easy to determine the lines when Kreider comes back:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere
Goodrow-Chytil-Kravtsov

The 4th line will be a combo of whoever is left until Gauthier comes back and you roll Vesey-Brodzinski-Gauthier

He's doing fine. He is generally supporting the puck well and supporting the cycle, and he has made a couple of really nice feeds, And, yes, hasn't cashed in on a couple of chances unfortunately, and he's also taken a couple of bad penalties. Could it better? Yes. Certainly it could be worse.

Yeah he has been fine, but not good enough to take Kreider’s spot yet. That was what I was getting at. I just wanted to see more from Laf the last 3 games.

Ok so here's Panarin

Do you want better offensive play-driving at his price tag? Sure. He's still a net positive.

Then there's this guy.

Don't know if I would pay the price tag for it in a trade but if we're ignoring the defensive side (which...fine), then it makes some sense.

Then there's this absolute piece of shit.

Trying to improve Panarin 5v5 with Kane is like trying to put out a fire by throwing a grenade at it.

TroPanarin is simply putrid right now. But who knows, maybe Laf takes Tro's focus away from Panarin. Tro and Laf do the work; Panarin can go hide and spring out to attack.

Hitting the net would be a start. When was his last 5v5 goal? Honest question
January 3rd. And then he had a couple before that. The big gap was actually in November.

Here's something nobody will believe but like, it happened, and somebody's going to "disagree" with it anyway - he's shooting a lot more.

Maybe he should be more selective and focus more on quality instead of trying to do everything at once.

Well, since you put it this way...

Still, the evolution of the perception of Panarin here has been interesting. There aren't much people wondering anymore if Panarin is playing hurt as some sort of out for his atrociousness.

I think you have to put him with Chytil. Chytil and goodrow. Accept that you're going to get caved defensively but pretend that goodrow can win faceoffs and block shots so it's not actually happening, and meanwhile let our best passer play with our best shooter. Hope they can outscore their deficiencies and match them against bottom six competition, bottom pair defensemen, and start them in the o-zone as much as possible

Tired of having to come back to a guy we’re paying almost $12mm to not make anyone better.
If your assessment of Panarin is correct, how can he lead the team in even-strength scoring?

If he had overwhelmingly more goals than assists, you might have a logical argument, but Panarin creates more goals for his teammates than every other player, with the possible exception of Fox.

I love the idea of "we get what we want, and the Rangers can pretend the negatives are not happening."

Outside the box thinking.

I think Goodrow will hold them back, if you want an all-offense, no-defense line. I'm not even referring to Goodrow's defense. He's a black hole on offense except for the occasional beautiful-mind passing and deflections. You put Kravtsov on right wing.

Gallant just has to get over the mental hump (or Drury's or the organization's pecking order) that Chytil is not a legit 2C. He has gotten over other humps, like Miller on the power play, Trouba benched in overtime, Kakko top-line minites, Kravtsov in the lineup and then off the fourth line, etc. So hopefully he will flip Chytil and Trocheck.

He's not shooting more. He's shooting LESS. He's shooting at the lowest rate since he joined the rangers. His iFenwick/60 is lowest in that span as well, and his icorsi is second lowest. (5v5)

I agree that he is shooting more (not on the PP) but he can't hit the net. Even Micheletti is whining about it.

There are plays throughout a game that Panarin makes bad offensive reads that a player of his caliber shouldnt make. Too many times he pulls up at the offensive blue line and tries to force passes through sticks to player cutting to the net. He should dip his shoulder and take the D-man to the net himself (like he did in OT against Dallas), or get a shot off and play for a rebound chance. Hes a strong player on his skates and I personally don't think he is soft, BUT not playing that way is soft.

We can survive the regular season and be a playoff team with his perimeter play, but we need more from him in the playoffs. Last years showing wasnt good enough despite the Game 7 goal.
