Maybe because Eichel isn’t clearly superior to Matthews? They have pretty similar career stats so far and Matthews is a way better goal scorer than Eichel. Also, I don’t think any Leafs fans would trade Matthews for Eichel 1v1, they’re really close though.

I'm not sure you know what "clearly" means. The evidence doesn't really support that but Eichel is having the stronger year (except for goals). Most of us know they are close enough it's not worth arguing about.

Well the thread title and poll title are different and I didnt read it. I think player wise hes between 15 and 20 fantasy definitely top ten.

id have Eichel 6th and roll the dice on the 21 year old swede that actually is helping his team out of the basement. Not entirely Eichels fault but he could be 7 or 8 years without a playoff game when all is said and done

Eichel has certainly stepped up his game a lot defensively.

I'm a big Pettersson fan, but to be fair, scoring has gone up, and Eichel missed time. He almost certainly would have hit 80 in his second season under today's scoring had he played the whole season, as he was 11th in PPG while Pettersson is 22nd this year. He also might hit 40 goals this year to Pettersson's 30ish

If im starting a team from scratch and I want the best players moving forwards with winning long term as the goal I'd go w the below list /ordering. If it's the best players for a win now situation my list would be a bit different...
