Most likely he will sign an ELC after the season - .925K.

There is talk if he signs during the NHL season that this would burn his final year of his ELC thus making him an RFA, which may cost more than that...

I can’t see Lou giving in to that. They are going to need that ELC next year for cap purposes.

Rumor for a long time was $$ was why he didn’t come. The price may be burn the ELC this year and pay the man next year.

Personally, this guy is Sasquatch to me - a nice rumor and until I see him signed, I don’t believe he’s ever coming over.

Since Jenkins has been getting healthy and back to his regular routine. He has GP-7 G-5 A-6 Pt-11 and is giving his team a lethal 2nd line. Giroux Suzuki Coskey + Perfetti Jenkins Busdeker and the addition of Wilde makes the whole team better.

I agree, but there may be a compromise. They sign him burn the final year of the ELC and sign him to a 1 year (one way) deal at ELC $ .925 k guaranteeing the actual dollars even if he is sent BPT.

I think Sorokin also wants to be sure he makes the team and doesn’t go to BPT and make 70k

There's no Bridgeport.

And he's been earning upwards of 2 MM for several seasons now.

He won't be coming over at 24 and perhaps the top goalie outside the NHL to be anything less than an NHL goaltender.

But Lou knows this.

I get that, but from a contractual stand point Sorokin on an ELC has no protection in case he is sent down. He’ll make AHL min 70k.

Just to be clear If Sorokin is brought over I do NOT imagine he plays a single minute at BPT.

Chapin,
I know this is off topic, but
have you seen Pius Suter play?
Who are some euro free agents that you would target this offseason?
And what are your thoughts Grigorenko?

Chapin,

have you seen Pius Suter play?
Who are some euro free agents that you would target this offseason?
And what are your thoughts Grigorenko?

I don't care for Suter's skating and I think it'd be quite cumbersome for him at the NHL level.

He has experience in North America and he's definitely getting better and better every season. His 30 goals this year are basically unheard of from a Swiss player in the NLA. It's been a unique season. If he has a strong World Championships, I believe some team will chance it on him.

As for Grigorenko, the man can play in the NHL and would surely get something done. He may even have the impact like the one Dadonov has had on Florida. He has matured since his first go of things in the NHL and he knows what it means to be a driver on a championship team. Then again, it is really hard to tell with him if the desire is there. Just don't know how much he would want to change his current situation?

I do think Dmitri Jaskin will be heavily sought after. It was already clear that he could play a nice lower line role in the NHL and then he went to Russia to tell the rest of the hockey world that he can score too, if given that role. And he has. I see a few teams needing that!

As for other Euro free agents, I think teams will look at Zub, Okulov, Barabanov, Hofmann, Rendulic, Kinnvall, Brome, Handemark, Bristedt, Suomi, Nattinen, and maybe Skalicky. Surely there are others that teams have on their radar. Defenseman Codie Curran (Canadian) has had a pretty monstrous season in the SHL. I'd love to see a team take a shot on Simon Semesky, a German defender who is awesome on the power play (righty shot, sweet one-timer).

Also watch out for a Swede named Jonathan Johnson from the Allsvenskan. He is 27, but has exploded with 73 points in 50 games. Usually, the topscorer of this league has around a PPG average. His teammate Albin Lundin is 23 and has had 67 points, so he may garnish some interest. Of course, both take a back seat Jonathan Dahlen, who has torn the league a new one. All of Sweden knows that kid would have been a 30+ point player in the SHL, but he wanted to play with the hometown team a league lower.

As for college kids, I've always liked Michaelis and Tuomie back when they were part of Germany's U18 program. I think they'll both be getting a look from teams.

We shouldn't forget though that the NYI currently only have 1 or 2 contract spots open. That'll make things tight for any late season signings. The team was aggressive with Hutton, Jobst, and Carpenter last spring. Dunno if they can do that this spring too? And I think no less than Carpenter is going to be a UFA this summer.

thank you for the analysis and report. always much appreciated.

Grabbing a guy Michaelis helps soften the blow of losing picks - just the type of out of the box thinking the team needs to do.

How has Wilde been since he's been back? Tough break for him getting hurt in training camp. Hopefully he gets his mojo back and comes back next year real strong.

Don't want to play fat guy sitting here in Florida but does Sorokin look back in the net? Need your basement 2nd baseman glove thoughts on this?
Hard for me to say. I never moved front to back, only side to side (a little bit).

This guy always impressed me when I saw him play. I never understood why he couldn't put it together at the NHL level to be a decent middle sixer. Always kind of looked what a guy like Richard Panik is. Physical, good at the cycle game, with enough skills to top out at around 20 goals and 35+ points. Yet it never seemed to materialize for Jaskin.
