I'm always incredibly skeptical of overagers who are putting up decent numbers, especially when they're not even the main guy on their team.

Reminds me a bit of Pens' prospect Sam Miletic. Decent, but nothing special, numbers in his previous years, then had a breakout year as an OA. He's looked decent in the AHL with WBS, but other than maybe the odd game if (when) the Pens have a truckload of injuries, probably a longshot to be in the NHL.

Justin DiBenedetto comes to mind

what a line!! We drafted 2/3rds of that line!! Mark Katic was on that team too I believe.

Matt Martin has made a nice career. I’m pretty sure he was basically a walk on with Sarnia.

Maybe Snow's master plan was to draft all of Stamkos' teammates so he'd eventually sign as a free agent in New York. :sarcasm:

we really were such a joke of a franchise. lol

Just you wait. One of these years the 3-goalie system will be the new winning strategy in the NHL and Snow will finally be regarded as a genius.

Not sure if it's been discussed but the 2 guys I was hoping to draft in the first round last year were Tomasino and McMichael. They were pick in consecutive picks following Holmstrom and they are absolutely lighting it up in Juniors right now...depressing...

Holmstrom was a reach pick. Tomasino seemed to make the most sense at the time.

Based more on the fact that holmstrom could not stay healthy is why he was projected by most draft experts to go early second round. Personally i wanted Kaliyev but the draft is a crap shoot with most of these picks.

I'm sure Holmstrom will pan out. Living 15 miles from the Niagara's rink in St Kitts. I had a chance to watch him, live and on local TV and was surprised he was still left at 23. He is playing lights out in Oshawa GP-11 G-12 A-12 Pt-24, the kid going to be a good NHLer IMO.

I wanted Tomasino more than McMichael and was surprised he was available. With that being said, it's still quite early. Holmstrom could be lighting it up in juniors if he was there (and healthy). This will take time to play out. The consensus pick would have been the safest (Tomasino). However, let's not forget that Dal Colle was the consensus pick at 5 as well back in the day. These things are tough to project. Still early though.

I brought this up with Wahlstrom when he was struggling his first season in college how transitioning from high school to college hockey and all the expectations that come along with it is a big difference in life.

Holmstrom has moved to a different country, playing in a league that is above the talent level that players his age are used to, and people expect him not to struggle? He was never coming into the AHL and lighting the league up this season.

Ah yes, the New York Islanders will qualify dibenidetto and Katic and will release Jared Spurgeon. It's all coming back to me .

Yeah, but did you see Holmstrom's shoot out winner the other night ?

I wanted McMichael more than Tomasino.
