WTF is up with JHS. Is he still injured?

This is a well done chart. Really keeps track of the organization's prospects well.

Wang FOMO'd hard on Andong Song. I think he genuinely overvalued the kid, perhaps due to bias, but he wasn't going to leave him on the table

I don't think there was any "overvaluing" whatsoever.

They damn well knew then that there wasn't an ounce of a prospect with any NHL upside in him. This had nothing to do with adding another asset. And it was surely something that left a number of people within the organization feeling like part of a joke.

The Song pick was, is, and shall forever be a media gimmick that was as unprofessional as it was wasteful.

25. Theo Rochette, C, Chicoutimi (QMJHL)
A sound decision-maker in all areas of the ice, Rochette is an aggressive center with a strong desire to make an impact in all three zones. He’s played center off Chicoutimi’s top line for most of the season and has been able to stand out via his playmaking and quick shot-release combination. Like several skilled forwards in the upper tier of this draft class, Rochette is willing to support his defensemen below the circles and will pounce on loose pucks to kickstart the attack.

Looks like the perfect 3C prospect for us, at the right range for where we are picking

This is the year we go for the Cup!

Don't expect to have a first rounder this summer.

what do you think Krygier's upside is?

Honestly, I believe we have reason to hope this guy has a bit of a future as a 5-7 Dman who punishes and kills penalties. Thing is, he's not a bad skater.

He has the bloodlines and is a guy who very well knows how to stay within himself and his skill set while regularly contributing what he does bring to the table in a very team-first manner.

One to watch - but more a topic for the distant future.

Simon Holmstrom... not too shabby? Especially with all the heat he got when drafted and its his first pro year and he is 18/19?

I’m not disappointed in this pick once I did more research in him. Seems to have the tools to be a top 6 winger. I just have to remind myself he is a 18 year old playing in the ahl direct from Sweden. Patience will be needed for him. But he can be a good one in a few years.

Where does Coskey stand as a prospect? Just going by stats alone, it looks like he's having a good season (certainly better than Blade Jenkins) but I've never actually seen him play.

I'm always incredibly skeptical of overagers who are putting up decent numbers, especially when they're not even the main guy on their team.

Reminds me a bit of Pens' prospect Sam Miletic. Decent, but nothing special, numbers in his previous years, then had a breakout year as an OA. He's looked decent in the AHL with WBS, but other than maybe the odd game if (when) the Pens have a truckload of injuries, probably a longshot to be in the NHL.

Coskey and Bibeau spent last season as overagers in places where the Isles scouts were hanging out. Looked like "lazy" picks the minute they were taken. Sure wish we had taken more Newkirks.

Chances are that both Coskey and Bibeau are right now having the best season they'll ever have. Like you say, they're not even the main guy while putting up, well, the type of numbers you'd expect of guys their age for competitive teams.

For my money, they aren't really guys you should even be spending picks on. Draft futures and if you like guys like this, sign them after the draft as UFAs.

But now they're Islander picks and we have to hope that something about them lets them creep into the picture for the NHL squad at some juncture.

I said before the draft we would draft players from the likes of Saginaw where we already had a couple of draftees. Lazy picks is a good description because we always seem to be doing that. This year we will surely draft one player from Portland (where Newkirk plays) and one from Sherbrooke (Bolduc's team)

Pretty sure Nick Pastujov is unsigned and could become a free agent this summer, he's put in his 4 years of college since being drafted. Not sure what his plans are and how the Isles feel about him but he seemed like a potential find in the later rounds and with better development might be worth the investment.

Will see if he is invited to the prospect camp or gets an ATO in the AHL.

I think these are two very different players. Bibeau has 4C potential, I don't see Coskey doing anything.

Where does Coskey stand as a prospect? Just going by stats alone, it looks like he's having a good season (certainly better than Blade Jenkins) but I've never actually seen him play.

Been to almost all of the Saginaw home games since Blade and Cole were drafted. Both top out as bottom 6 NHL guys, likely career AHLers. Doesnt mean both dont have their strengths they can use carve out a niche on to make a career.

Coskey can score, play PK, throw some hits, and is a shit disturber, probably one of the best at the latter in the OHL imo. Obviously not a stat that gets kept, but I bet he draws more penalties than anyone else in the league both because he keeps moving his feet, and has this cocky grin he throws at guys to get them to retaliate back at him. If he can flesh out some of the skating I can see an NHL team wanting a player like that on the 4th line.

Jenkins is harder to gauge because of his injury this year. Took a nasty hit to the knee and missed some time.He is solidly built, has some sneaky speed (even coming back from his injury), is a leader in the room, and has all the offensive tools needed to contribute just needs to put them all together. I think if he added some grit to his game (will throw some hard checks time to time and then nothing) I think he could catch on as a power forward.

He would seem to be the guy to watch over the long run.

He's got a lot of the tools to be an NHLer. We'll have to see if he's got the toolbox and the pedigree to turn weaknesses into non-concerns over time.
