I’ve seen the Phaneuf comparisons. Think he’s a better skater, w better agility than Phaneuf.

He has a long way to go defensively to become phaneuf.

In his first few years in the NHL Phaneuf our up great offensive numbers and then become more of a shutdown defender who ships in on offense.

In junior he put up decent offensive numbers for a defenseman but nothing earth shattering compared to other junior offensive Defensman.

Wilde has a high offensive cieling. If he ever reaches Phaneufs level of defense while being a lot of offense to the table then we have our selves a top pairing Defensman. I don’t think he will become a top pairing guy but I think it’s definitely fair to expect a #3/4 Defensman if his development goes extremely well.

Maybe I should have said 20 year old Dion Phaneuf :P

The kid has sick tools, it's clear offense won't be an issue with him. It's all about rounding out his defensive game, making good decisions.

It's a good thing he's getting crazy ice time and being deployed in all situations.

And we see how important that is watching Pulock struggling on D

MDC also had an assist. He was all over the ice last night... looked like a completely different player.

Makes you wonder wtf was the coach saying to him before?

It can't be just the regime change. These kids obviously had to work on things...but someone or something was holding them back from working hard and playing. Maybe they saw no light at the end of the tunnel to make the team.

Power forwards that rely on their size tend to take longer to develop. Going from dominating 17-20 year old amateurs to having to out muscle grown professionals is a rough change to adapt to. I'm still not totally sold, but cautiously optimistic.

MDC isn’t really a power forward though. He was a really good playmaker and more of an opportunist in the slot than a true net-driving power forward. But I understand your point and regardless he seems to have always been slow to adjust to new situations.

When he was up last year for a handful of games, he wasn't noticeable in a positive or negative way. Pretty sure I said then that he could maybe grind out a third line role if that's all he ends up being. Having the ability to not get scored on is a skill, even if you provide zero offense.

I said a couple times before but Dal Colle might carve out himself a career like Brett Connolly

I was talking more about his positioning in the slot area. Another thing you used to see at times from him in JR was that power move he had off the right half boards. It's non-existent now. He's apprehensive going into the corners and the slot area which is where most of his offense used to generate from.

There's still hope for him, but to be a heady defensive player means getting your nose dirty. Look at a player like Cizikas or Kulemin... always digging in the corners, fighting for the puck in traffic and clogging shooting lanes. If MDC can get over that part of his game, his offense will come alive along with it anyway.

Dal Colle's biggest issues to me was his skating and his ability to get his nose dirty. I think if he was a little more tougher and was OK throwing his body around a little more, then it could've offset his skating deficiencies. That's why I feel like Bellows can succeed. He's not a great skater, but he's a gritty kid.

If this new regime can wake up Dal Colle, just a little bit, we could be pleasantly surprised.

MDC is definitely someone to keep an eye on. I believe someone can be late bloomer and can improve when surrounded by positive influences. Who knows if this kid got some direction from someone inside or outside the organization. Maybe someone pushed the right buttons and he sat down and took an honest look at what paths were in front of him. Rooting for him.

My guess is he saw the “MDC is a bust thread”
