Why was Greiss excelling in front of essentially the same team earlier in the season?

Why did his play go to shit right around the same time that Ned's did?

a fair question but ultimately probably not one that matters

the Wings aren't gonna give up on Ned just yet especially considering he's under contract for another year anyways but he's been far too inconsistent to bring Greiss back and go into next year relying on just him and a 36 year old that's had issues of his own

Wait, there was a point where somebody bumped this thread to dunk on people because Greiss was playing so well???
EDIT: Wait, this thread is from last year. Yes, he is very very terrible now.

I think it matters a ton.

If Greiss sucks because he sucks, you just cut him loose when you find a better goalie, no biggie, move on.

If Greiss sucks because the defense corps started giving up on the team, you probably start moving bodies around (we started this already with Walman and Juolevi).

If Greiss sucks because nobody is giving him positive guidance, fire the goalie coach.

If Greiss sucks because the team as a whole has given up on the season and has no motivation, fire Blashill and maybe the whole coaching staff.

Having one goalie's play suddenly go to hell is just a thing that happens, goalies are fickle animals, the NHL is hard, etc etc. But having two goalies both suddenly have their play go to hell is worrying and a phenomenon that you absolutely have to get to the bottom of before it f***s up even more and sets back your rebuild. Ned could theoretically be a solid starter for us for the next 5+ years, losing him for some stupid reason (i.e. coaching) would be a travesty.

Greiss was only ever a backup in this league, if he was a started it was a stop gap solution because the team had no better options. He's not toast he is just playing over his skill level just like the other 90% of our roster.

It's happened before, remember when both Howie and Bernie decided they weren't going to cover the post and opponents just scored at will? Salajko needs to go. We've seen enough.

Greiss split games in NYI. He was never a full time starter, but I don't think it's fair to say he wasn't a starter or can;t handle the workload. He just played behind a much better D, as did Ned.

I think the easiest way to send a message is to fire Salajko, and play in a defensive shell. Stevie's "yes man" gets to keep his job, everyone's happy. (Not really, lol)
