No, Fedorov really was that good.

Think about it, he had 10 30+ goal seasons and was good enough in his own end to be used as a top-4 defenseman on championship caliber teams.

There was really nothing that he couldn't do. He had decent size, great skating, hands, ridiculous hockey sense.

Toews is a very good all around player. Definitely a top-10 center in the league right now. You could make a very good case that Fedorov is one of the top-10 centers of all time.

Forget top 10. There are arguements for Fedorov as a top 5 in prime.

We're talking about a guy that could've battled for a Norris too as a forward.

There is no argument for Fedorov as a top five centre of all time, peak, prime or otherwise. He was a great player, and his 1994 season in particular was monstrous, but he's not at that level.

That said, of course Toews is not as "complete" as Fedorov. If complete is taken to mean having a wide range of high level skills, then very few players in history match Fedorov. Toews has Fedorov beaten in consistency from year to year, and that's about it.

How so? What's consistent about Toews that he has Fedorov beat at? It sure isn't offense, and I feel defense fedorov was elite for many years.

The only time Federov had bad years at Ofence was the years he was on nonplayoff teams or he was old.

Toews is nowhere near any legendary players. Sundin was a more better overall player and I would take Sundin 100/100 if you give me a choice between 2. Yeah Sundin couldn't win a cup, but he didn't have as good a team as Chicago is.

The real question is : "Who is a more complete player than Fedorov ?"
The only player who is more complete than Fedorov to me is Bobby Orr.

I'd say that Fedorov is the most complete forward.

Fedorov makes a prime Datsyuk look like a chump, and I love Datsyuk. The answer is "not even close."

A chump? You must be forgetting about Prime Datsyuk. Datsyuk in his prime was scoring 100 (pretty much) points and shutting down players, Just like Federov.

I seriously doubt the OP (or anybody saying Toews > Fedorov) ever saw Fedorov in his prime.

Fedorov >>>>>> Toews AINEC.

Fedorov was the best player in the world at one point, and a top 5 for years. Toews? Not so much.

Fedorov was better offensively, defensively, skating...basically any skill in the game Fedorov was better at.

What's next? "Is Toews a more complete player than Bryan Trottier was"? LOL

The grind line would of been the fourth line. You guys are being ridiculous if you don't think toews would of been the 3c. What could draper do that that toews couldn't? Little better at faceoffs and not quite as fast? Draper was a defensive specialist, a poor mans less skilled toews.

120 point season
Selke and Hart in the same season
50+ goal season
2nd only to the greatest hockey player in NHL history
Literally played defense

In potentially the only time I have and will say it on these boards.. Toews is no where close to Feds and its "not even close".

Draper won a selke and had good considerations for others and you compare him to Zamuner.
I'll take the all Art Ross team over the all Selke team any day.
Toews wouldnt be a good fit for a physical grind line, thats a given. Just like Datyuk wasnt a fit for the grind line.

Why do you *need* a physical grind line? You're going to sacrifice having Toews on the team to add grit? That's exactly the line of thinking that made Markus Naslund a Canuck, instead of a Penguin.

What are you making faces at? To suggest that toews wouldn't push kris freaking draper down the line up is ludicrous.

Resounding no. Fedorov trumps Toews all to hell. Short memories around here, that is, if the people that think Toews might have been better were even born at the time Fedorov played.

Yes. Luc Robataille played the 4th line and the Wings won the Cup 3 out of 6 years with the grind lines that way so hard to debate it wasn't correct.

Per the OP question. Fedorov was so much better than Toews at everything. Offense, defense, skating, stick handling. This comparison isn't even close.

Yzerman and Datsyuk are both better all around than Toews and Fedorov was better than those two.

Lol the wings won one cup with 20 goal scorer tail end of his career luc playing on the fourth line. Talk about an inaccurate misleading example.

He had 30 goals in 2002 with the Wings which is more than Toews had this year. The previous 3 years he had 39, 37 and 36. Which are better than Toews. also.

Toews would have been 4th line and the grind line was going to stay. Sorry

Guy gets a ludacris bounce off the Anaheim goalies skate kicking it into his own net, but yeah let's start another 3 Toews threads and another 3 Chicago threads.

No.

If wings could reach second round of playoffs or if zetterberg/datsyuk could win a second cup as the centerpieces of the team we could start more threads about them. I guess lidstrom and younger hossa wasnt as good of a supporting cast as toews has
