Toews is not close to Fedorov, or Datsyuk. Most overrated player in the world.

Nope, not even close. This is why I laugh at anyone who compares Toews to modern-day legends like Sid and OV, when he's not even that great of an example of an elite two-way center. You want elite two-way play? Look at guys like Federov, Clarke, Datsyuk, Trottier, Forsberg, etc. Those were guys who were elite at both ends of the ice and could compete for both a Selke and an Art Ross/Hart.

Toews is good but not THAT good.

The grind line would of been the fourth line. You guys are being ridiculous if you don't think toews would of been the 3c. What could draper do that that toews couldn't? Little better at faceoffs and not quite as fast? Draper was a defensive specialist, a poor mans less skilled toews.

Yeah, but Toews can't punch faces!

These people are the reason Team Canada doesn't win every tournament: Always looking to take Drapers and Zamuners over Toews' and Messiers.

Draper won a selke and had good considerations for others and you compare him to Zamuner. Toews wouldnt be a good fit for a physical grind line, thats a given. Just like Datyuk wasnt a fit for the grind line.

Why can't players just be themselves? Why do we have to always try to find the reincarnation of some old player?

He never said Toews = Fedorov. He asked a question as to whether not Toews is a more complete player than Fedorov. That's not a comparison, that's a question.

Fedorov finished 2nd in points when he won the Selke, had over a hundred when he won his second Selke a couple of years later. No comparison here.

I dont get that question. If he were better then Federov there wouldnt be a thread about this and we would be saying "Toews is the best two way player of all time"

Not sure I follow...

Basically, Federov is the most complete player of all time. Toews is great, but doesn't hold a candle to Federov. Toews is one of the most complete current players though.

My goodness..Fedorov wasn't THAT good. People need to stop romanticising retired Russians from the 90's. Fedorov, Bure, Mogilny, Larionov etc. were all great but there are some great ones playing today as well. Toews is certainly in that category.

No, Fedorov really was that good.

Think about it, he had 10 30+ goal seasons and was good enough in his own end to be used as a top-4 defenseman on championship caliber teams.

There was really nothing that he couldn't do. He had decent size, great skating, hands, ridiculous hockey sense.

Toews is a very good all around player. Definitely a top-10 center in the league right now. You could make a very good case that Fedorov is one of the top-10 centers of all time.

Toews' defensive ability gets insanely overrated. He's good/really good defensively for a star offensive forward. Fedorov could legitimately play the D position, and was much more well-rounded IMO.
