No, they were sloppy again and Vancouver just couldn't score. I didn't watch the Ranger game so I won't talk about that one.

Do you credit the last two victories to Tom Fitzgerald?

It’s always tough to tell what coaching is doing but Fitzgerald appears to be the guy in control of the bench during the game. Hynes, for all I criticize some structure items, seems like a very stand up guy so maybe this new coaching structure is very collaborative but Fitz is saying his piece during games.

We have seen one major change to the wingers breakout when Fitz started so that was either Fitz’s change or the players just started doing what they were always supposed to. I believe it was a Fitz change.

I’m hoping Fitz works on the defensive structure during this break. I think the wingers responsibilities need to be updated and if we see that then Fitz is making the calls and making the updates he thinks are needed.

Except they know Fitzgerald's no long-term solution himself. At most he's on the bench the rest of the year then he may well get a GM job. They clearly don't think an outsider will be better or that would have been the solution over this.

I'm really curious to what Fitzgerald's true input is on the bench. Is he basically drawing up plays? Is he making lineup choices, decision? Or is he providing a silent 4th set of eyes and keeping the fire warm under both the players and coaches.

I credit it to being home and playing two bad teams. I don’t think you can pass judgement until the team plays road games

I doubt Fitz is doing much actual coaching. I think having him there has simply given everybody a wake up call. It's like if your boss decided to follow you around all day at work instead of sitting in his office, and you realize if he doesn't like what he sees, your ass might be out the door.

That contradicts what reporters have said regarding practices and how he's appeared on the bench though.

I wouldn’t call Vancouver a bad team. Credit where it’s due. Also, these wins are not a result of Fitz. He may add value, but it’s not like he came in early this week and changed systems or anything.

The breakout did change so either there was a system change or the players stopped ignoring the system.

Except that the team is visibly playing completely different between the Florida game and the Rangers game. It was very noticeable.

They've definitely been playing more structured with a third-period lead the last two games, whatever you want to attribute that to.

They're still not playing very well. What's changed most significantly is that the goalie is stopping the puck.

If Fitz was actually doing Hynes' job, wouldn't they have just fired Hynes? I would imagine Fitz has input, but I think people are probably overstating just how much he's actually running the bench, practices, etc. It is also possible for players to play better without there being a change in systems or coaching.

Except they had three other home games prior to Fitz coming on down....and they lost those three games.

Can't ignore that.

don't you dare use logic and rational thinking. Not up in here!

Logic and rational thinking is subjective.

We had 3 home games before Fitz arrived and we lost all 3 (and were fortunate to have even gotten a point against Edmonton).

So my "Logic and rational thinking" is that Hynes does not deserve credit for any of the wins (or losses) going forward since Tom is here.

This is no longer his team, IMO.

The biggest difference I saw was the forwards actually playing closer to the D so that out numbered situations could be created and passes could be shorter. To me, at least, it was very noticeable.

Tampa's board keeps bringing up the idea of letting Jon Cooper go.

If that happens, I would safely assume he's the most qualified and biggest name candidate to replace John Hynes by a mile. I'd welcome that in a heartbeat.
