I really don't want to get into this but what you are saying has nothing to do with it.
It absolutely does. Because there are variety of different hockey fans, and they don't deserve to have to wade through what's becoming an increasingly toxic environment to converse on their hockey fandom.

Seems like a pretty simple concept.

I'm in the group that is not offended but find I cannot go on GDT at work or when family is around therefore i miss many GDT posts and while i don't post often i go on the boards daily to read opinions so personally I'm against them for selfish reasons that I cannot read the GDT too often
This is it right here, good post

So some people on the forum have assumed I’m a guy and I don’t always go out of my way to correct them.

I’ll flat out say it now. I’m one of the female posters on the forum.

I didn’t really care about the Benoist stuff because it seemed goofy but it was done in the spirit of fun.

The bouncy gifs are unnecessary though on a hockey forum.

I scroll past those and just focus on hockey discussions but it does feel a little gratuitous and uncomfortable because it’s not something I expected I’d have to come across when I’m trying to talk hockey.

Just my two cents.
I'm a dude and I agree. The meme gifs and stuff are fine. But a lot of the "bouncy" gifs I can see people having issues with.

and i hate that i'm labelled as a troll when i'm just voicing my opinion that i think Draisaitl is better. i've had threads locked last season and early this season because of that, only because i have a different opinion than others.

I've been sitting on this one for a while now. I've been noticing more and more pictures/gifs posted of women recently, especially in GDT/PGT threads, and I have to admit the trend is really turning me off this page. I've been a member since '03, and find myself looking for alternative places to talk hockey now. It seems to be getting more and more gratuitous, to the extent that I'm not comfortable scanning HF around my family.

Does this bother any other posters here, or am I on an island by myself?

Yesterday somebody showed a pay page of a young girl dancing in front of the screen for money. Its gone beyond the pale. People have daughers, wives, families. There can be beauty in good taste, and I don't mind that at all but theres others things that are commonly referred to here that are just entirely distasteful as in the "ass eating season" Just stop.

Oh my god a beautiful woman being posted on the internet who would have ever imagined. Listen I understand it may offend some people but isn’t that half the problem, people are offended by everything nowadays. It’s not like people are posting porn on here lighten up a bit. The fact of the matter is I could post a picture a small puppy on here and some psycho would say it offends them. Just because you happen to be different doesn’t make you special or it shouldn’t mean you should have more rights then somebody who isn’t.

Open another tab in your browser, search for the pics and gifs there, don’t bring them into HF. Everybody wins. We get hockey talk in the hockey forum, you can enjoy your female pics on the side. You do you. But don’t come into a discussion about inappropriate content, and post shit like “a puppy could be offensive to someone,” because that is the worst kind of response. You very well know the difference.

He isn't so much as offended as put off by the fact he cannot browse in front of family or at work.

Correct me if I am misinterpreting @Mowzie

It's not about taking offense, or being too sensitive, it's just like... Why?

Sure there's some pretty cool stuff on the internet, but I don't understand the importance of sharing graphic content on a public board. Does it make a man, more manly if he posts the biggest chest? It just seems like junior high.

I know for a fact there are females who are offended or at the very least uncomfortable, with the posts. So there's that.

It's like recipes on Pinterest. I want your recipe, I don't care about your auntie in New Hampshire who used to take you berry picking when you went to visit in August of 1993.

A micro example of the macro degeneration of the internet as a whole. Don't hate the pics myself, but would not be comfortable browsing with kids/wife hanging around.

EDIT: But just as a post that I notice the gratuitous women in the ads at the bottom of HF. So what is the difference I guess:
MGBwLL4s.png

This happened once crave took over the board. A lot of the add splashes are quite subjective. Its a good point. People should have a choice what they want to see, within reason, and it always seemed odd that those adss were allowed whereas the board had policies regarding other gratuitous displays. I'd be fine if the whole board took a step back on such displays.

I liked them as a guilty pleasure. In a world that just gets more and more PC it was an extra way to celebrate the Oilers doing well.

It's unfortunate that basic human nature takes enjoyment of such but that's just how it works. We should all be pushing harder to be better than such base reactions but it's not that simple.

The posts are wrong for various reasons and if anyone is made uncomfortable by them they should be removed and future posts should be warned against.

I applaud the OP for having the courage to come forward.

I couldn't care less if they stay or not and think the OP has a point.

But the bolded is exactly what is wrong with society. One person gets uncomfortable and its time to bring in the PC police and ban all behavior. I can find someone who is uncomfortable concerning anything in this world.

It wasn’t funny to begin with, but I don’t even think those pics are the point the OP is getting at. It’s the ‘bounce’ stuff that is the most ridiculous. Makes the entire board look like a bunch of drooling idiots. Imagine trying to browse the post game threads on public transportation or in the lunch room at work. It’s embarrassing.
I won't speak for anyone else but I come here because hockey is a passion and despite all of the crap we have dealt with over the years I remain a die hard Oiler fan. If this trend continues I will likely limit my time on the site. This is my personal position. I am fine with others who might feel differently.

I am guilty of posting a few myself . I done it to stay with the trend which is a poor reason . I am glad lots on HF Oilers don’t agree with it . Also glad the OP brought it up as it becomes acceptable in ones mind when you take part in it . I will no longer post them and I apologize if I offended anyone .

That's true, but it goes both ways. People use their differences to advantage of rules/policies very often nowadays, or to gain attention. I don't think mods have to come in and ban everything, but people can at least be considerate and refrain from posting them. It's a hockey forum. There's no need to post all that bouncy stuff.

The issue is that posting anything that makes a person feel uncomfortable with their own sexuality or religion, on a public board, is wrong
I get that that is why the OP made this thread, but for me the point is even more basic. This is a hockey board. We are here to talk hockey. Are some posters so zoned out that they are unable to refrain from consuming gratuitous imagery in every sphere of their lives? And so selfish that they think everyone else on the board won’t mind indulging their infantile behaviour?

That's the perfect response. No arguing over who's right, or necessitating mods stepping in, or arrogance clouding judgement. You recognized that people have different opinions to your own, and you helped them out. :thumbu:

Again, yesterday a pay by the minute pay page of a young girl bouncing, in semi entire, for the obvious purpose of paid gratification and objectifying was in the PGT. If that's OK to you that a public use hockey board has sunk right into porn linking and actually showing that visual display right in the post then I guess that's OK for you. Others might have different standards and shouldn't have to be subjected to what they choose not to peruse or support in something as general use as a hockey board.

I think a general rule of thumb is that anything that wouldn't be shown on a jumbotron at a game probably shouldn't be being shown here. Sounds fair?

Let’s be clear about something... people are not more offended now than they ever have been. We just now live in a time where people can speak up about it without (or at least with less) retribution.

I 100% agree with the OP. And it has nothing to do with if you find the women attractive. Heterosexual men are allowed to not want to objectify women. It isn’t a knock on their masculinity.

if I want to look at bouncing half naked women, there are a ton of places for that. Even places that have chat forums. That isn’t what this forum is for. That isn’t why I come here.

I want to talk hockey. I want to get excited about my team playing well and making the playoffs. I want to talk about our best players winning a ton of hardware at the awards. That is what I am here for.

I agree that there should be a degree of "professionalism" on the site. I like pictures of beautiful girls as much as the next guy but there are thousands of sites that can fill that void.

I have no real issue with it but understand some would & it should probably be curtailed somewhat.

That being said I'd much rather deal with that than 6 posters taking over a GDT complaining for 3 periods in every second post about something that didn't happen last game because they don't like that player & then call them disparaging names.

Yes. This stuff is as consumable and as available as tap water, I just don't get why it's cool, or relevant on a public hockey forum. I'm more focused on the bouncy stuff in this case. I'm in my mid 30's, and I just think like what are we gaining here? Again, I just don't get the appeal. Everyone has a certain thing they like, I'd be interested to see what the reaction would be if gifs of men were posted, or if the gifs of women were older or plus sized.

Go open an incognito web browser and search whatever you want. My issue is why are we making this a prominent part of our most active threads.

As I said, you have a point. I did not agree with his bolded comment.

Harpoon's Avatar is violent. I'm offended. Your avatar combines different species and I think it borders on offensive for obvious deviant reasons. I'm offended.

See.

Note: I'm really not, but I could easily play the part.

Sure are a lot of screen names I've never seen before in here.

So what? I read this form in several times a day. I don’t post a lot. Does that mean I don’t get to criticize or talk about something that I don’t like? Sorry I didn’t realize only prolific posters got to decide what this site should look like.
