Is it just me? (Update: No Bounce Posts)

I've been sitting on this one for a while now. I've been noticing more and more pictures/gifs posted of women recently, especially in GDT/PGT threads, and I have to admit the trend is really turning me off this page. I've been a member since '03, and find myself looking for alternative places to talk hockey now. It seems to be getting more and more gratuitous, to the extent that I'm not comfortable scanning HF around my family.

Does this bother any other posters here, or am I on an island by myself?

I don’t feel ‘uncomfortable’, although I can imagine what some of our female members must think. I agree with you that it is very inappropriate and completely unnecessary considering the theme of this board. I believe several months ago the board was told to grow up and refrain from posting the sort of pictures you are talking about. Sadly, one solitary poster (who rarely makes any sensible hockey contributions) thought he was better than the rules and started up with the ‘theme’ pics again in pgts. Others saw him getting away with it and followed his stupid example. It’s quite sad actually.

I’m sure there’s a place on the Internet where a bunch of guys can talk about that actress from Supergirl or whatever. I hate how nothing is being done too.

I agree that the more inappropriate pictures (including the bouncing ones) should stop.

There are people on this board (me included, as a Muslim) who don't believe in looking at some of the pictures. I'm okay with people mentioning or even posting appropriate pictures of women for 'luck' or themed GDTs, but the ones that sexualize an objectify women should stop.

I liked them as a guilty pleasure. In a world that just gets more and more PC it was an extra way to celebrate the Oilers doing well.

It's unfortunate that basic human nature takes enjoyment of such but that's just how it works. We should all be pushing harder to be better than such base reactions but it's not that simple.

The posts are wrong for various reasons and if anyone is made uncomfortable by them they should be removed and future posts should be warned against.

I applaud the OP for having the courage to come forward.

As a side, I don't post often, but am constantly lurking, and my wife observed that winning sure makes hockey fans horny. I didn't have a better explanation.

I don’t like censorship, in general, but I can understand how people who aren’t me would be more uncomfortable than me. I will go further than that, though: There are definitely some gifs that would qualify as “gratuitous”, and if someone just caught them out of the corner of their eye as you were browsing would definitely raise some eyebrows.

So, for the record, my position is that this board doesn’t need to be as dry and boring as an accounting forum, but maybe we can dial it back a little with the extremes.

Some of us look at HFBoards during our breaks at work or some people have moral issues about these kinds of things. I think people need to be more sensitive to others as well, especially when this is a Hockey Forum, first and foremost. It's fine if there is only 1 picture of it, but it seems I find one every 2nd post now and they get more derogatory the further you look into the thread. That's a problem.

I think the overkill is the issue. I found the Supergirl thing kind of fun because I watched the show, but @Mowzie said it himself that he can't come onto HF with his family around. I skip through those pictures/gifs because I'm a Muslim, (and ethically it's just wrong). I just think that it's important for posters to know that these perspectives exist, so refraint from posting them would be nice. I'm not calling for mods to ban posters/delete posts, because I like the posters on HFOIL. But we're here to discuss hockey and have a good time, so let's just keep the fun away from areas that can be offensive to some.

Ok. I don't know why it would offend any gay man either. Most of the posters in this thread are men, at the least the ones I know.

I don't know, I just think people get offended too easily in society nowadays but that's just my personal opinion. I get it on some level because the gifs are posted constantly and it does get to be a bit much at times but in general, I think it's pretty harmless IMO. The bounce gifs are getting a little out of hand though.

In any event, it's probably best to put a stop to it if it bothers too many people and it divides the community.

It honestly does not bother me, but I do understand that people do have different values, beliefs, religions etc that view and post here + the female posters probably don't want to see that shit. The guys would not like it if the females posted bouncy gifs of guys shlongs flapping around in speedos LMAO

Yes. This is a hockey board. Half the posts I enter it's like I'm walking in to a 16 year old's bathroom. I just don't get the appeal? I'm a warm blooded male, but I just don't understand the need to turn hockey talk in to a competition on who can find the best bouncing boob gif. It just seems really immature to me.

Completely fair post. I didn't mean to come across as insensitive to the issue.
I do think that hockey culture and beautiful women go hand in hand but I get it from your standpoint.
