Awesome news. Deal works out for everyone. Reasonable price for us and a pay increase from Russia for Sorokin.1 year $2 Million. Most thought it would be the $1.5-$2 million range. I say this is right on par.
safe to say he will play back up to varly next year with a chance to take over or earn more starts depending on his play.
The Russian netminder will sign a one-year deal for the 2020-21 season worth $2MM according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. This deal will still leave Sorokin as a restricted free agent in 2021 but gives the two sides a lot more time to work out a long-term deal.
Thank you Thomas. In the column of "good" Islanders, Good luck to you....except when you play us.Thanks for the memories, Greiss.
Guy was a stand up dude. He has now taken the "backup goalie crown" from my favorite.....Mark Fitzpatrick. Que the Wade Duby fans
If this is our Martin Brodeur I'm ecstatic. My thoughts on this is this is the biggest player addition the Isles can have. First off it is Lou. His history with Goaltenders is well known. Then it is Trotz, his history with Goaltender's is known too. Add a talent and proven record in the KHL, with Goalie guru Mitch Korn. You don't have to be Toe Blake to see this is going to lead to a lot of W's. The Isles are set in goal for 5-10 years, as long as Sorokin is an Isles. Firat step was taken yesterday. The Sorokin era has begun. I am expecting huge things, not being hyperbolic. This will be a step by step process. But I am even going to give Snow credit for drafting him. Whoever scouted him. Ownership, Lou for getting him over.
I think he has the pedigree to fit the bill of a Brodeur, Schneider, Rinne, or Holtby. Any of these 4 would be more than fine. Still has not played a game, but looking at his skillset from the vids and his already impressive resume from the KHL. He is going into a very good situation for a Goaltender. The Isles system will insulate him like it did for Lehner, Greiss, and Varly. And I think he is by far the most talented Goalie of the group. If this is our Martin Brodeur I'm ecstatic.
And Pelech as an RFASo after next season we'll have Sorokin and Beau as RFAs (not counting MDC and Koivula in the mix right now) and Zeeker as a UFA.
1 yr $2M seems fair for both sides, especially with the cap as it stands next season.
I view the extension as a placeholder deal. Sorokin will still be an RFA at the end of the extension and it gives both sides time to work out the following contract. Why only 1 year? What does that mean for past next year? He is a UFA?
And by shut the f*** up you mean complain about "rusty" beams at Belmont ParkIndeed. This is actually ideal. People can shut the f*** up now.
Skarek will have to be #1 in BST. There’s no other goalie under contract for next year.I remember reading an article on Sorokin prior to the draft. It was a very positive article discussing his maturity at age 18 (already playing well in the KHL), and his skill level.
So when we drafted him, I remember thinking, this could turn out to be a really good pick. Now, I think it could turn out to be a GREAT pick. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about an Isle’s goalie prospect since Roberto Luongo, who only went on to have a Hall Of Fame career. Hopefully the same with Sorokin, minus the trade.
I’m pretty excited about Skarek as well. In 20-21 while Sorokin is playing his rookie season in the NHL, I think Skarek will be Bridgeport’s #1 goalie.
But Lou drafted Holmstrom....And by shut the f*** up you mean complain about "rusty" beams at Belmont Park

I hope Holmstrom is fireproofBut Lou drafted Holmstrom....
