If Babcock stays, do Dubas and Keefe go?

Leafs Nation dinosaurs roaring with delight

Vindication after 2 consecutive 100 + point seasons that this embarrassing and disproportionately greater accumulation of skill viz. competing teams must be addressed forthwith! Start by trading Nylander! And do it voluntarily so nobody can call it a heist

Enough analytics! Just stop it with data! No more Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations! Stop it, just stop it! We are Leafs nation and we know hockey! Stupid Bettman wants to move away from Post Concussion Syndrome liability but we'll show him that he's wrong! Rock'em Sock'em and fight, fight, fight!

We need veterans who know how to win. Veterans who know the Don Cherry "code". Real hockey. True hockey. Canadian hockey. If we need to trade away some of these speedsters that we don't really like in the first place for some slow footed 40 year olds, then so be it! Hello desert! There's our future, sacrificed!

Sarcasm aside....

It is the epitome of arrogance to claim the NHL has changed dramatically when we just exited the first round for the third time in a row.

If it has changed, we clearly don’t have it right. Less preaching from the GM would be appreciated until he has a track record that has some W’s in it.

When lou left, so did the fear. Kids need discipline. Not a buddy to lead them.

No maybe gone after a Lundqvist or Luongo and developed a new one. They'll never win the BIG game with Andersen.

Lundqvist, Luongo, Bobrovsky, Price, Vasilevskiy, Hellebuyck, Dubnyk, Rinne. All great goalies without cups. I don't see your point. Andersen is arguably a top 5 goalie in the league.

We really, really need to watch the hot takes- Washington just got eliminated and they are demonstrably a good team as are the eliminated Tampa Bay Lighting

Really want to be wrong, but Game 2 officiating clearly and Game 7 to an extent shows perhaps some NBA broadcast partner considerations type officiating in the NHL. Freaky weird, is it not, that once again there will not be a Canadian cup winner? Sort of like how almost always, the NBA finals has 2 teams from the top 10 largest markets and that those markets are greatly over-represented in the finals. Game 7 the fix was more NBA subtle with not calling hooking, etc, all sorts of Leafs lying on the ice and they did not trip over their own skates. We really should be in a snit.

We need to stick to analytics. We may need to re-calibrate the weighted averaging. Hey, a reclamation project, a free agent from the KHL, move on from some slower players and double down on speed and skill, recreate the Soviet Red Army team, and it is still a bit of a lottery as hockey has the most fluke luck elements when shooting at 6'x6 'pads. But trading Nylander? That's the stuff of stupidity and is quite frightening

The league is Post Concussion Syndrome aware. The league must move and has moved from Rock'em Sock'em. No more players laid out on the ice a la Scott Stevens on Lindros. Not happening. The Leafs have the money for great scouts. They are going all speed all the time and have found a theory to work with, which is way better than panicky reactive management of old. There is actual logic, wisdom and reason in Leafs management. And the game is moving away from 1999. Analytics and the age of reason, that is our bit!

Define “analytics”

Of course you need data. Particularly health and performance metrics that are proprietary.

But this idea that Dubas is the Moneyballer of hockey is just silly.

Some magical formula that finds success in zone entries. Trust me... if it was magical ... all 31 teams would do it.

In MLB, “moneyball” isn’t an advantage anymore.

Dubie is going nowhere. He is close to home in Toronto (Sault). He got his dream job from Shanny. As long as Shanny still trusts him to negotiate the Marner deal he will do it. But again Shanny is funny that way. It is possible Shanny does it himself and Dubie still remain GM. As strange as that sounds it could happen.

Big issues out there:
1. Does Babs remain and if so how does next season coaching look?
2. Do we keep Freddy or look for a replacement?
3. Who negotiates the Marner deal?
4. How do we upgrade our defense to get 2 more defenders given CAP?
5. How do we fit Kappy?
6. Do we trade AJ now that we can't seem to get him in with our CAP? If so what do we get back?
7. Who tells Marleau he is done? How does it get done so we are not regressing next season on the cAP?

There are a lot of issues to seriously ask the brass? I doubt any of them will get asked? We will see? Toronto media is weak. Very weak.

Babcock will get another year with new assistants. Babcock goes before Dubas. It's very rare for a GM to be fired before the coach is (Lou's contract was expiring they just didn't re-sign him)

I really hope not. It's a scary thought to me as I'm certain he should be gone but this team could easily win a round next season DESPITE Babcock and then we're stuck with him for at least one more year.

This is the perfect time to fire him. Team got worse from last season (despite him saying look, we're so much better), we barely made the playoffs, we were sliding down in the standings for months and had the season lasted a couple more weeks, we may have not even made the playoffs. Then we lost our 3rd playoff series in a row, hard for anyone to yell too loudly if he's fired. Win a round next year though and the optics get a bit messy.

This is your chance Mr. Shanahan, please take it. Please!

No. Dubas will continue to build the team he wants and will force Babcock to adjust. If he doesn't (likely) Dubas will have full justification to fire him next year when they lose the Bruins again in round one.

Dallas Eakins was once a Marlie coach with God like status. How did that work out?

He was a great coach, his mistake was going to the tire fire in Edmonton. That organization is like a wood chipper for good NHL coaches. The same organization that destroyed Ben Scrivens' NHL career. Not even Hitchcock could take that team to the playoffs with Mcdavid and Drai scoring 50 goals.

funny how in the presser today, Dubas was putting all the blame on himself for everything and Babcock blaming everyone else. Babcock said need more and better players, lost our good pk players bozak and Polak, said nylander was bad, kadri killed our depth. And also found out his boy hyman (who shouldn't be in the top 6 to begin with) had a torn acl early in the series and on one leg gets more mins then Mathews. This coach makes me sick!

Your last point isn’t true

If Babcock gave his stars Bruins' ATOI... they'd play.... less?

As you said after game 6 "only 3 more periods of Babcock's coaching"

I thought it was too good to be true at first but after today we just may be trending that way!

Lets hope he is gone. The Leafs can go 2 ways, either save a few million dollars and keep him Or get serious about winning a Stanley Cup and fire his ass to the moon before next season starts. A blind man can see he is not the right coach for this team. Lets see whats more important to Leaf management.

0-4 Game 7. Time to move on.
This TEAM is 0-3 in game 7s. It is a TEAM sport and they as a TEAM failed to close it out in game 6 with a lack of effort in the 2nd period.

Andersen was arguably the best player through the entire series. Was game 7 Freddy's best game, no , but he wasn't the reason we lost that game either. We only scored one goal off a fluke deflection and failed to get any other dangerous chances all night. If you are gonna refer to the first goal against Freddy as the reason we lost, it wasn't and you don't overreact and dump arguably a top 5 goalie because of a fluky goal.

A Cup winning goalie would have stopped # 3 as well. Playoff time is not about being good. It's about being great. Also the team had a noticeable let down after the first one.
