No defense not a team player, has an attitude, wouldn't stop playing fortnite till he was banned, lol. Wants a trade and has one trick. Stand and wait for a pass.
Almost all of this is bullshit. You need to tap out of this thread.

Grossly overpaid doesn’t mean they aren’t NHL worthy d-man. Them being really hard to move is way more due to their contracts. Murray who is better than both those players when healthy was traded for chump change this off-season as an example. There’s no market for Brady or Jake.

The cost of a Top 4 defenseman with term can't have shifted that much because of the pandemic. To be "grossly overpaid" at $5.25 mil and $4.05 mil respectively, Skjei and Gardiner must be roughly 3rd pair caliber. Therefore, Carolina's defense is comprised of three Top 4 or above defensemen (Hamilton, Slavin and Pesce), two bottom pairing caliber players (Skjei and Gardiner) and a promising young defender (Fleury). For a chunk of the league that has a noticeable hole on its blueline, that looks like depth. I can see that. However, if the goal is to build an ideal defense, it's not.

Past 3 seasons he spent 2/3 of the time outside of Jets 1st line.

1075mins with Scheifele
2077mins without Scheifele

...and? He's still played with very good players. Besides, he played with Scheifele on the first line this past season and was 4th on the team in scoring. He was also 3rd on the team in goal scoring which is supposed to be his bread & butter.

While 50 goals in a lineup is impressive, that type of production from one player hasn’t correlated strongly with team success at the highest level. There have been 22 50 goal seasons (+ 4 50 goal pace seasons cut short by the pandemic) since the lockout and 0 cup wins. Ovechkin (49 in 17/18) and Selanne (48 in 06/07) came close. Even 40 goals is not necessary:

Carolina isn't even lacking in that department right now. Aho paced for ~46 in 19-20. Svechnikov has 40 goal upside.
Now do the number of 50 goal scorers in those seasons and the % that won the Cup.

All things being equal every team has a 3.3% chance at the Cup.

17/18, 9.1% won the Cup.

16/17, 33% won the Cup.

I’m not going to go through all the years and the exact number of players who were on pace because this is just a silly post and a waste of time. But if we are going on this theory you actually proved the opposite of your point.

Laine's phases in NHL by hfboards:

1: One trick pony
2. Plays Fortnite 24/7
3: (Improves allround game) Cant play offense anymore.
4: Attitude problems.
5: Only lord jesus knows what.

You also forgot that he refused to workout and lift weights when his Captain and other vets asked him to, so he can become a better/stronger/more athletic player. A professional athlete that doesn't want to workout. And every one of those statements is factual.

There's nothing wrong with being set up, he can't really create his own chances like say Ovechkin, but if he can get open and set up, his shot is lethal. Jets/Finnish fans get offended by this for some reason. He's a sniper who needs to be set up, pretty much every play making centre's wet dream. Imagine him with a prime Thornton, he'd be putting up 50-60 a year.

If he can just start putting in more effort off the ice and off the puck, most of HF would agree with what Jets/Finnish fans think he is.

I'm hard on Laine as a jets fan but "no defense" is just pure bullshit.

He struggles sometimes getting pucks out of his zone on the wall and has a bad tendency to turn pucks over in bad spots in the o-zone but it isn't like he floats around in his end, doesn't backcheck or blows the zone early.

I'm thinking you don't watch him play much

No defense is legit. I have watched him play closely he is elite offensively or if people get him the puck and sheet on defense

At least he isn't pouting because he's not the captain

No he is pouting cause his teammates want him to workout, stop playing fortnite and focus on hockey, also his attitude sucks. Tarasenko is in a completely different level. I thinks its awesome he is disappointed he is not captain. If he didn't have back to back shoulder injuries then he probably would be

You can ask anyone here, they would rather have a healthy (pre-injury) tarasenko over Laine any day. Team player, plays 200ft game and can score in a defense first system. Was just as good at setting plays up as he is scoring. Lol

Laine had a -28 on a stanley cup contender team. Disappeared in the playoffs during blues cup run. 3g 1 assist in 6 games. Such a stud

My point here was that a team shouldn't feel the need to go crazy for a potential acquisition just because he might score 50 goals at some point. A Rocket contender is helpful, sure, but far from a prerequisite for winning it all. This proves the opposite?
