The level of pay obviously depends on your level of play, but I would guess that some of the better imports receive in the neighbourhood of 2,000 Euros/month plus expenses.

Couple of sites of interest…

…List of team websites and contact information.

Awesome, I will look over these. Thank you!

I saw about the contact info on the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation, and it listed the teams that are recruting.

Btw, Kiraly are those rumours regarding Janos Hari´s move to the CHL true?

Re: Hari

According to this article his intention is to play in the OHL next season if he can find a club. It is also written that he hopes to have an arrangment with a club within the next two weeks. The article was written 10 days ago.

Even if he does not come to terms with an OHL club, it seems that his relationship with Farjestad has come to an end. So I think we will definitely see him with another organization next year.

...Kiraly are those rumours regarding Janos Hari´s move to the CHL true?

Janos Hari interview posted on jegkorong.blog.hu today:

Hari says with respect to his career, it is not important if he is selected 39th or 172th overall or if he is not drafted at all this year. The most important thing is how well he will play in the CHL this coming season and thereafter.

Hari is actually more focused on the CHL import draft next Tuesday as this will ultimately decide where he plays this fall. According to his agent, it is almost certain that he will be selected in the import draft.

Hari’s first choice would be to play in the OHL as he feels this is the more prestigious of the three leagues, and of the three leagues, the OHL produces the most NHL players. That said, Hari would be very happy to play on the other side of the continent as well.

Hari also says that he was tempted to come to Canada last summer but decided to stay with Farjestad as he was told that he would have an opportunity to play with the men – not sure if they meant Farjestad’s senior team or the Division 1 team, Skare. The fact that he only played 3 games with Skare and the rest with the U18 squad is believed to have affected this stock negatively. He decided in May of this year that he will not wait any longer and will make the move to North America.

Scouting assessment of Hari is that he is a creative, aggressive forward capable of putting up points. His skating is said to be average and that his defensive game needs to be further developed. His size is also an issue. As mentioned, the fact that he has almost exclusively played in the U18 league is also negatively viewed.

Hari is planning to come to Canada in the middle of August. Hari has already said his goodbyes to his former Swedish team and they have parted amicably. He has not closed the door to a return to Farjestad in the future.

The tournament has been postponed likely due to the air traffic disruption in Europe. The tentative dates of the tournament are July 21 to 25, 2010.

It appears that Hungary will not be participating in the postponed tournament...

...checked the new schedule and there are several teams missing, including Hungary's U14 team.

Hungary at the U20 W.C.

Hungary lost the deciding game to Poland (9-6) and will remain in Division II for at least one more year. The older Polish team was clearly the best team in the tournament even without Damian Kapica. The icing of such a young Hungarian team begs the question whether a more experienced roster would have been able to win promotion. It is unclear if some players were passed over, if their clubs denied their participation, or if they themselves decided not to participate.

Tamas Virag led the team in scoring with 10 goals and 9 assists, following by Balazs Somogyi (8-6-14) and Attila Pavuk (5-8-13). As these players are all born in 1991, they will not be returning next year.

As the IIHF may be changing the format for the U18 & U20 World Championships in May, the groupings for next year are still unknown. Under the current format, Hungary should be grouped with Ukraine. Under the proposed changes, Hungary will battle for promotion to Division 1B with both Ukraine and Lithuania. The latter format would be preferable as it would result in much more competitive groupings for the lower divisions.

Other side of the continent on the Canadian side of the 49th. I just read that about 80% of the tickets have already been sold for the tournament in Budapest. Would be nice to go to Budapest for the Division I tournament and then catch a Canuck game or two in Kosice, but the cost is prohibitive considering I'd have to take the whole family. :)

Three players from Slovakia have recently obtained Hungarian citizenship:

Ladislav Sikorcin
Vladimir Dubek
Dusan Sijka

Sikorcin (25) currently plays for Csikszereda (Romania), Dubek (30) and Sijka (21) both play in Miskolc. I could see two of these players receiving serious consideration for the Division I World Championship.
