Daniel Koger scored his first point in the AHL with an assist for the Milwaukee Admirals in a 4-2 loss to the Peoria Rivermen.

The Patriot Game

Snippett:

BUDAPEST - Significant strides have been made in Hungarian men's ice hockey this decade, with the highlight so far being its senior national team playing in the top division of the IIHF World Championships in 2009. In order to try and raise the bar for next generations, the Hungarian federation are putting their hopes to the Molodezhnaya Khokkeinaya Liga (MHL).

...

Currently at number 19 in the men's world ranking, Hungary's senior national team will be hosting the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I Group A in April next year. But with its U18 and U20 national teams competing at a lower level, a number of the country's prospects have been joining junior teams abroad to develop their skills. So when the opportunity arose to start up a MHL-team in Budapest, the Hungarian federation welcomed the initiative with open arms.

"We only had four covered ice rinks in 2002, and today we have 17, so our hockey is still very much on the developing side. For us, the MHL is a very special opportunity to step into the very highest level of junior hockey and we are very grateful for having been given this chance," said Zoltan Kovacs, General Secretary of the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation.

...

"Patriot Budapest is a long term project for us, that needs more time to attract more spectators and media coverage. For next season we hope for an improvement with hopefully more Hungarian players," said Kovacs.

I'm not sure what Sebok is doing, whether he's injured or what. eliteprospects says that he's only played in 12 games for Karpat U20 and he's not participating for Hungary in the World Juniors.

Hungary finishes 2nd to Japan in Division II Group A. I'd say a rather disappointing result, considering that in their game against Japan they were leading 2-1 after the 2nd and then lost 7-2 and they gave up the last 2 goals in regulation to the Netherlands in Regulation, so they had to win in OT, losing a point.

could've possibly went undefeated and got promoted to Div. I Group B...

Better luck next year i hope!

Youngsters Move Up

Hungarian Women Promoted to Division 1B

Hungarian teenagers impress, lead women’s team to Division I

AUCKLAND – It was an emotional moment. The partisan crowd erupted and the players hugged themselves. Hungary had won the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship Division II Group A in New Zealand.

Hungary beat Italy 3-1 in the deciding game to claim the tournament win and get promoted to Division I Group B next year. It was the consequence of one of the fastest improving women’s hockey programs in the world that led the U18 women’s national team to sixth place worldwide recently before countries such as Russia, Germany or Switzerland.

...

The win was an important first step in Hungary’s bid to lift its standards and qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

...

Thirteen members of the Hungarian squad are under the age of 18 and the entire team is under the age of 21. All are amateur players. One year ago Hungary made it to the top level of the U18 Women’s World Championship program and finished in sixth place overall this year

The final placings were:

1. Hungary 12 points
2. Italy 12
3. Australia 9
4. New Zealand 7
5. Poland 5
6. Slovenia 1

Hungary to host Womens' U18 Championship

Snippett:

CASCAIS, Portugal – With none of the women's hockey powers applying, Hungary stepped up and were awarded the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship. It will take place in Budapest.

The Hungarian women's U18 program is a fairy-tale story. They won the 2012 U18 Division IA event in Tromsö, Norway and earned promotion to the 2013 top pool women's U18 championship, with all the major powers Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland.

...

The dates for the championship are 23 March - 30 March, 2014.

The championship will be held at Budapest's IceCenter, a modern (opened in 2002) and a perfect-fit facility in the northern outskirts of the capital (Ujpest)...

Serbo-Hungarian Collaboration on the Rise

Serbo-Hungarian Collaboration on the Rise

Snippet:

BELGRADE/BUDAPEST – A growing number of Serbian junior prospects have recently moved to Hungary's capital Budapest. With the cooperation between the two neighbours growing at all levels, Serbia hope it can give its domestic game a much welcomed boost.

From the centrally-located seventh district of Hungary's capital Budapest, Slavic voices ring out in the air as another day comes to an end at the Nikola Tesla school with students dispersing from its gates. Named after the country's world-famous inventor, the pulling power of this Serbian school has of late played an influential role in attracting the next generation of Serbian hockey stars to the city for an education both on and off the ice.

A glance at the rosters of Serbia's junior national teams during last year's IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B reveal telling facts: Nine out of 22 players from the Serbian roster at the tournament played for clubs from Budapest, while the respective figure for the U18's roster was seven. Eight players joined the team currently competing at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division II Group B in Jaca, Spain, from club teams in Budapest.

Hári János finally had his scoring streak broken last night. 6 points through 7 games. I do not understand Swedish, so I can't read up all that much about him on the SEL website, but it appears that he is on the 4th line for MODO while playing a very important role on the 1st PP unit.

Hopefully Nagy Gergő plays well for the Chicago Wolves this year. He may be the best bet for a Hungarian making the NHL at the moment, since he fits the 4th line grinder type, with the ability to chip in points.

I have high hopes for Láday Tamás. When was the last time a Hungarian played in the CHL? Seems like he has at least decent odds of being drafted to the NHL, especially since he is 6' 7" already, and not afraid to use his size.

Jani's little brother will be playing in Hungary for Debrecen.

Norbert Hari to Play for Debrecen

The IIHF had ruled that Norbert was ineligible to represent Hungary in IIHF tournaments as he has Swedish citizenship as well as Hungarian citizenship. Hari plans to play in Hungary at least as long as is necessary to comply with the IIHF requirements.
