I am very excited for the season and can't wait to cheer on the Wings but I gotta be honest, the roster management feels a bit directionless and chaotic at the moment.
- Beginning the season with three goalies
- Your second best defenseman is in the AHL behind a plethora of 3rd pairing dmen (imo)
- Pigeonholed into running 11x7 because you can't scratch your brand new signing (Holl @ 3x3.4)
Seider/Raymond/Rasmussen are all due for a raise this coming offseason. We are okay for now but one more Chiarot-esque contract and we have to start talking about cap issues. We are spending ~25% of our cap over the next three years on Chiarot, Holl, Copp and Compher. I just look at our current roster/cap situation and I don't feel great about it.
Like why the hell is Edvinsson stuck behind Shayne Gostisbehere? What was the point of that signing? Why did we sign Holl to such a deal if he's barely got a spot on the roster? Objectively they are very questionable decisions, regardless of your beliefs in Yzerman
tbf, lalonde has said multiple times before preseason and during preseason that he likes 11x7 model, especially on the road because it can create matchup issues for the other team when you are getting extra shifts in for the top guys and the lines jumble up and forces the other team to make quick decisions when players start going over the boards. Since the away team changes first and home team gets the advantage there.
I don't think Ray get's a huge raise, I think he gets a 3 year bridge around 4-5 mil. Seider will get paid, especially because of Dahlin's contract. Rasmussen will probably get a bridge and hopefully soon before he starts popping off, probably 3x3-4. All is very manageable.
Holl isn't the reason of the recent signing that scratches the head. It was Petry becoming available for a cheap price. Then, Petry randomly played quite well and probably a little better than holl, hence holl sitting. Lalonde did say there would be a rotation for the D because they are carrying 7 d. I am pretty sure ghost is going to be traded by thanksgivings. It is quite possible that Ed wasn't 100% from his injury and instead of being rotated in the lineup, he could get top line minutes in GR for now. I don't see ghost on here before January unless we are really buzzing and have the eastern conference 1/2 see locked up by january, of which is just not going to happen.
I don't know what to say about the 3 goalies. I was first under the impression that Lyon could be sent down and that would be fine, but someone pointed out that is not the case and he would be on waivers. I can only assume that they are waiting to see which one fu*ks up first and trade them, but
