Awesome seeing Suzuki being the de facto #1 centre tonight. He's looking like he may be a Bergeron type player for us if this keeps up. Not physically imposing but just so smart in everything that he does.
Nice seeing KK on the board too you could see it had him pumped. The rest of his game was good too (not great, but good). He held his own on some key faceoffs and had several shifts vs. Malkin & Crosby. It's sometimes tough when you see him make a superb pass every now and then in a way that is very unique to him as a player only to have it go to waste on the stick of a bottom 6 forward.
I don't get why we have guys like Weal, Weise and Ouellet in the lineup. They aren't good enough right now and they aren't developing players. Drouin also invisible. I thought it would be ironic if he scored on that Penalty Shot given he had done nothing up until that point. Hopefully he can find a way to contribute next game. Also need to get Domi in the Top 9, he seemed like he wanted to get more involved in the play when he was out there.
Also, while I get putting Danault out there against Crosby, I don't see why we have to weigh down our two best wingers (Tatar/Gallagher) as that line spent most of it's time in regulation without much offense. They seemed to find a way to create a bit more in OT.
If it were me I'd try something more like this:
Drouin-Suzuki-Armia (hope Drouin can do better, but Suzuki and Armia played well)
Domi-Danault-Lehkonen (match this line against Crosby/Malkin lines; they can handle the assignment and it's okay if they don't generate much offense)
Tatar-Kotkaniemi-Gallagher (try to get them against the 3rd/4th line to generate some offense)
Byron-Poehling-Evans (4th line; at least if they are invisible like Weal/Weise it will still be getting the younger guys some ice time)
Mete-Weber
Kulak-Petry
Chiarot-Fleury/Juulsen/Brook (whichever of the three the coaches think is most ready)
*Of course we know that Weber, Petry and Chiarot will take extra shifts depending on the game situation
