That play by Barrie is the kind of thing the Oilers have needed for so long. A slippery/deceptive defenseman that can jump up, draw attention then dish it to one of their forwards that can bury it.

He makes some gaffe's withhow much freedom he has (Like JG picking his pocket for the 2nd goal), but he is a net positive right now. We would not have a guy who did that before besides Bouchard now. Nurse a little as well.

Barrie has done what’s been asked of him and apart from the first five games with a shortened camp and no preseason has looked good. It was a good pick up and cost us nothing.

Oilers have had horrendous drought of scoring from the back end in recent years and while Bouchard has potential he's no where close to scoring at a 60 point pace right now.

Almost all successful teams have an offensively dynamic dman. So yeah they did need Barrie for now.
