I stringly encourage you to do your own research regarding grains. There are certain recent posts in this thread that are hardly accurate in their demonizing of grains.

Well... everyone should do their own research.

What makes your research more accurate than others?

My research comes from variables sources.
Some are from books.
I my case I tried them and it works. It works for me.
It might not work for others since we are all different.
But if you eat healthy you'll get healthier.
But if grains work for you, great.
For me with an autoimmune disease they are a killer.

I also strongly believe that grains are bad for us.
It will affect some more than others.

Any diet or method of eating backed by research will have ample research to the contrary.

Know your body, talk to your doctor, and make changes that are sustainable for you and your lifestyle. Food and diet is an incredibly individual and personal thing and I applaud anyone that is taking steps to make themselves healthier, whatever it may look like for them.

There’s joy in food. It’s not simply fuel or a necessity for keeping you alive.

I haven’t but I have made the waffles and pancakes and they’re good. I’ve also heard good things about the frozen ones.

I encourage you to do the same. I have invested a lot of my time learning about nutrition. Extensive research hearing several opinions on both sides of the argument. With all the opinions out there it is hard to draw conclusions. What I have done is exclude the extreme ones and been drawn to the ones that make the most sense. I also look at who did the studies and who financed them. I look at if there is a book or a diet to sell as often a lot of bullshit grows out of interests like those.

Many real concerns are blown way out of proportion by people with a product to sell. It all comes down to what works for you. What seems unanimous from my time spent on the subject is that sugar is very bad, followed closely refined carbs which grains are a big part of. And for people with autoimmune diseases even "healthy " grains are very harmful.

I don't suffer from autoimmune diseases but taking grains out of my diet has made all the early arthritis symptoms in my hands disappear.

Arthritis is an autoimmune disease.
I have psoriatic arthritis.

There's no such thing as healthy grains. No matter what they say.

Some interesting observations here. I'm seeing my doctor Tuesday and I'll certainly be asking him questions. I may ask for a referral to a nutritionist.

My wife and I started using myfitnesspal app on 1/28.
I am 6 ft and on 1/28 I weighed 200 lbs.
My wife is 5' 11' and was 155. I can tell you her weight because none of you know her or
will met her. Otherwise she would probably hit me.
Myfitnesspal gives you a target calorie intake, and if you don't exceed the target you loose weight.
You can each chocolate all day if you want, just don't exceed the number of calories. You record, in the app,
everything you eat. Takes less than 5 minutes a meal to record. Recording what you eat keeps track of the
calories. I started at around 1865 calories a day. If I exercise, I get more calories for the day. By recording my calories, I have 2 cookies in stead of 3 or 4. I have 34 calories of carrots in stead of 150 calories of chips for snacks, and I have 1 beer instead of 3. You also realize that going out to dinner is a 1,200 calorie meal. I've lost 14 lbs since 1/28, and my wife 10.

So if you want to keep eating what you currently do, just not as much, and want to loose weight, might want to try myfitness pal.

6 miles done before 9am. I’ve never been a fast runner but I’m happy to see my work towards more consistent pacing paying off. That will be important when training for the Chicago Marathon starts in June.

It’s pretty clear where I stopped for a bit of fuel

The amount of medical information that is public now doubles every 120 days,but AMA compliant medical people still practice and preach what they've learned decades ago. It's a system that treats with drugs. Listening to traditional Doctors is almost laughable. Total cholesterol numbers are useless,the only number that really matters is LDL,which is comprised of small dense particles and large buoyant particles. Is your LDL Pattern A or Pattern B? Pattern A would be mostly large buoyant and much less insidious. What is your LDL-HDL ratio? What is your H1A1C? What is your morning Blood Sugar? How does your blood sugar respond to flour? Sugar? Grain? What is your CRP (measure of inflammation) or Homocysteine numbers? What is your Vit D level? What are your Thyroid T numbers? Are you Lp(a) positive? (Lp(a) is a protein that makes LDL much more insidious and it is provoked by wheat,at least 10% of you are Lp(a) positive) What is your BP? If you were to follow AMA recommendations and remain within their guidelines,you'd be in danger. I've been there,traditional nutritionists,cardiologists etc. and nearly died. I'm now 2 years 95% grain free and 3 months sugar free and my angina is gone,arthritis gone,LDL is pattern A,BP 118/60,H1A1C 5.1,CRP 0.9,Vit D Hydroxy 25 is-70,primary physician bewildered and befuddled. Everyone should join forums where people from all over the world are constantly reporting their experiences with grain and sugar free ways of eating and see the astonishing successes.

Let me rephrase, I'll use disease in the place of illness.

What virus do you know of that doesn't involve inflammation?
Inflammation is your body’s way of fighting disease. I can’t remember the specific cell types but basically white blood cells cause inflammation to bring water and nutrients to the site of whatever your body is fighting. It’s a natural mechanism involved in the healing process.

Obviously having inflammation all the time isn’t good, but you need it for recovery.

Okay, we're losing focus here. We were talking about nutrition and the inflammation caused by food, grains to be specific.

Inflammation is going to happen as soon as your immune system responds to a cause. This is not what we were talking about though.

Gotcha. If I could substitute bread for something different and still make a good pbj I’d try it.

Well I got nothing for PBJ but I use Large Portobello mushrooms for hamburger buns and it's freaking amazing

By the way peanuts contain lectins which also cause inflammation and jam is pure sugar so not a great choice anyway.

Well, if it makes a difference I always use oatmeal bread for the extra protein. Oats are supposed to be good for you. No way I can cut out sugar completely, I wouldn’t want to.
