No way on Tippet. Boring coach in every sense of the word. Hadn’t coached for a while. Just no. Bad. Very bad.

Oiler fans would 100% happy as pigs in you know what to play a Defensive trap style as long as the team is winning.

Todd Nelson

Holland hired him in 2015 to coach Grand Rapids.
oh man I hope so.........

Nelly might not get the horses to start but the nags would all be chomping at the bit. He is the potion to our slow starting , lack of ready to play issues.

This would be a feel good story. Just to make sure Nelson would come back, Holland's first order of business should be giving MacT the boot. Nelson probably doesn't want to see the old training wheels that were forced on him around.

Would love Nelson. Would be the only good thing about hiring Holland

Nelson would be a great fit
they should have never replaced him.with the wrong Todd. I never bought that whole "we need an experienced coach for McD " line. How much coaching experience did sather have when gretz arrived here? We need a coach that's close to the ground and will grow with the boys.

Babcock would be terrible for McDavid, but excellent for the team. I like Todd Nelson, he did a fine job when he was here, his line of pouliot-nuge-eberle was the best line in the league for the last month of the season. The best goddamn line in the league, Benoit Pouliot... Imagine what he could do with McDavid and Draisaitl...*drool

Babcock is not going anywhere for at least a year yet. The Bruins are quite possibly the real best team in the East and maybe in the league period, he's not going to get fired for losing to them.

No but he may lose his job because Dubas does not want to lose Keene combined with philosophical differences with him.

They can do that if they want, but be careful what you wish for is what I'd say.

Babcock has gotten a lot out a team of basically 21, 22 year olds doing much of the heavy lifting, 4 years ago they were supposed to need years and years to get good, instead they made the playoffs in year 1 with Matthews/Marner and every year since and I don't think just any coach could've gotten that result.

There is no shame in going to game 7, period 3 against the Bruins with a team that young and not getting it done just yet.

I don’t disagree but Dubas went all in for a cup run in the ELC phase of Marner/Mathews deal. He didn’t hire Babcock. Keefe is his guy. Life sucks and Babcock would be hired in 10 seconds elsewhere.

I'm okay with Holland but I don't want a dinosaur coach as well. No thanks to Tippett or Babcock.

Nelson I'd be open to.

BTW I am not a big Dave Tippett fan. That said a good coach coaches to his teams strengths and Tippett was working with what he had in Phoenix. I wonder if he would be that conservative with an Oiler team that has 2 of the top 4 scorers on it.

Tippett isn't a good coach. He got absolutely nothing out of most of his guys in Arizona for his entire tenure.

Hiring Holland to then hire Tippett would be a sign that Holland was the absolute worst choice and I like Holland.

Hiring Holland and him hiring Tippett means their idea is slow, big and methodical hockey which would get absolutely in today's NHL.

McDavid and Draisaitls offense would drop. The teams defense would improve slightly but the team would still wallow in shit

I'm actually very worried that just when we get out of a big slow methodical hockey structure, the league goes back to it. The playoffs are not giving me a good feeling.

I would disagree about tippet. He got terrible hockey teams and terrible players to completely overachieve. Arizona had no one and his teams while not good, should have been last every year

Tippet? ffs, he's a stubborn old dog that refuses to learn new tricks. The league has changed from his Dallas/early Phoenix years, immensely changed. He's not a good mind for today's NHL, and his last several seasons in Arizona is a testament to that. He's literally the worst coach imaginable for Connor McDavid

It's a just a rumor from one media rep, and supposedly it's just a name 'in the mix'.
I was thinking after game 82, 'anyone coach aside from Hitchcock will be satisfactory going into next season'. With Tippet 'in the mix', all of a sudden Hitch doesn't seem so bad anymore. I'd rather continue with Ken than have Dave turn Connor and Leon into robots
