I would be pretty surprised if Woodcroft doesn't follow McLellan to the LAK organization.

Everyone that knows anything has always said that those 2 are attached at the hip.

IDK, his current position probably gives him more of a direct route to become a NHL headcoach sooner rather than later. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he stayed in the Bakes.

Tough to say. Nelson ended up taking an assistant role after being stuck in the AHL.

Well, Jay has always been an assistant coach at the NHL level. Even if it is the AHL, his first year as a Head Coach has to be considered a success. I would think a couple more successful seasons at the Helm, he might get an opportunity with those credentials.

Very true. He might not want an assistant gig anymore too. Might want to show that he can run his own club.

I'm curious how much anger it will generate when woodcroft gets an interview for the Oilers HC job after the new gm is hired

I'm sure some, but it shouldn't. It's a common courtesy to interview candidates within your organization if qualified, even if you have no interest in hiring them. Added to the fact that Woodcroft has done a great job this season (I think 95% of us are eating crow, myself included) and he definitely deserves an interview. He wouldn't be my pick by any stretch, but do your due diligence.

I agree 100%, it would be a tremendous slap in the face for a guy who took a "demotion" from the team and turned into something great (solid season and quality prospect development). However, just because that's the reality won't change the reaction from those who don't do perspective.

WoodCroft is a players coach. Its pretty Evident. Will that work with this current lineup of undertalented and underachieving core besides the big 3. Who knows.

The problem is you can motivate guys in the AHL a lot easier than NHLers. Most of those guys are doing everything they can to get to the next level of in some cases hold onto a hockey career.

Not always that easy at the NHL level when guys have multi million dollar contracts and have no real concern about a job.

Scares me a bit that he couldn't get the PP motivated at the NHL level to work.

Here's a name that I don't think has been mentioned...Ryan McGill.

Assistant Coach in Vegas the past two seasons. Won OHL coach of the year the season before. Coached Kootenay for a few years before that. Won WHL coach of the year there. Assistant Coach for the Flames for a couple years. Eight seasons of Head Coaching in the AHL before that.

From Sherwood Park.

Might be an option if McCrimmon gets the GM job?

I always go back to the book Ball Four when the author is playing in AAA baseball and says his manager called the team in and gave the most motivational speech he’s ever gotten.

The manager stood in front of his AAA team, held his thumb and finger about an inch apart and said: “Gentlemen, you are this close to getting Major League p***y.”:laugh::laugh:

Possibly. I've got to think Rocky Thompson would have an edge on him considering he's coached here before.
