The assumption down here is that one of Palat - Killorn is gone and Hagel fills that role. With other UFA issues it creates 2 new 3rd line holes next year without the picks available to trade away to fill the holes.
While the whole roster isn’t “old” Stamkos is as well as their top 2 Dmen.
I can easily see the 2023 pick being 17 - 24 then depending on age or injury with very little on the way and a lot of mileage on Kucherov and Point. I almost hope they get to keep the 2024 pick because the 24/25 version of the Lightning will not be impressive.

I don't know of how a roster with Kucherov, Point, Hedman, McDonagh and Vasilevskiy will not be impressive? Sure those guys will be a couple of years older but none of them have shown signs of slowing down. They'll had some injury issues but they play is still high level. Obviously that's the only players under contract so far so no idea how the rest of the roster will look but the core is still intact and should be a playoff team regardless.

McDonough doesn't belong with the other guys you listed.

And most teams have a couple elite guys. Tampa has one or two more than that, but they also lack a ton of depth. Depth is a significant reason why good teams are good.

Not saying that I expect they'll drop of contention soon, but I could see it, especially if one of those core guys regresses enough.

The top 2 Dmen will be in their mid 30’s.
McD is already slowing down.
Hedman is “picking his spots” and joining the rush less. He gets (IMO) too many hard minutes to maintain his level (See Keith/Seabrook).

24/25 season is just 2 years away, not 5. McDonagh isn't slowing down, he's still one of the best defensive defenseman in the league. Plus they have Sergachev and Cernak to eat some minutes for them, Sergachev is already up to 2nd in time on ice.

Tampa will most likely bring back Stamkos for much less, Hagel gets a raise, plus there's Cirelli and Colton who could still be around. The top 6 amd top 4 should still be elite and Vasilevskiy will still be Vezina quality.

The trade was a great one for Chicago because I think Raddysh and Katchouk would have been good pieces for us going forward. BriseBois just wanted more of a sure thing and Hagel was that over those two who Cooper didn't trust yet, it takes him a long time to trust kids sometimes. So BriseBois couldn't wait for that and forced the issue. The two 1sts will be late and we would most likely more one of both down the line for a rental anyway so not expecting them to even be used by us. We just need to find a few college or CHL free agents to fill our prospect pool that's bare.

Tampa has been bouncing in and out of 3rd place in their division (and into a WC spot) the last week or so. They aren't some unbeatable juggernaut.

Good teams decline. We know better than most. We're just crossing our fingers the Bolts decline a little sooner than what might be realistic.

They were an unbeatable juggernaut in the regular season in 18/19 when they tied an NHL record for wins. Them they got swept in the playoffs. Since then they haven't put in the same effort in the regular season so they're ready come playoff time and it's worked. They know what they need to do to make the playoffs and that's what they do and then bring out their best there. They could always fall flat on their face and the pick be in the low 20's but that pick isn't helping this current core more than Hagel hopefully will.

Yeah, we know all about the magical switch.

Don't forget what fanbase you're talking to.

Easy win the Hawks…

Four players for one, maybe two if one of their 4ths make it…

Tyler Raddsyh abs Boris Katchouk are NHLers and two top 32 picks vs Hagel and two top 128 picks…

Chicago and Tampa have very different forward depth charts. Hence the standings. Hagel has the opportunity to jump up in the top 6 next season or if injuries happen of course.

He's in the bottom 6 averaging under 13 minutes a night with no power play time. He was averaging 2 minutes a game on the power play and 17 and half minutes a night here. Tampa's top 6 was working out pretty good for them already so as was understood the Hagel acquisition will be judged on him moving up when the team inevitably loses a guy or two.
