wow! this is a huge news for me. thnx!
No problem, a lot of people still think the 35+ rules of the old CBA is still the same when in fact it was reviewed during the last lockout.

That's pretty average to me. I would dump them all, only keeping Chucky.
Sounds like a stupid plan to me. What do you want? 4 legit first centers?
At 3.9M for me, Gorges needs to do more than block shots, and be a good leader...my issue with Gorges is his contract...he should be fairly easy to deal though...
Good luck getting a top 4 dman for less than 3.9, especially in free agency. The cap is always going up, 3.9 is perfectly fine seeing as we gave Emelin 4.1 to hit people.

He just seems expendable to me.
I really don't get the obsession with keeping him.
This has nothing to do with Gorges directly but it is really crazy to pay 4 mils to a D man with no offensive upside whatsoever, when 20 goal scorers wingers and centers are making 4-5 mil leaguewide....not sure if it was Burke who started this trend with Komi's contract or what...I just find it hard to understand.
Gorges is expendable when you've got 4 dmen who are better. And that means actually in reality better not "Tinordi/Patteryn/Bealieu could easily fill that role full time based on nice highlight plays that they made in a lesser role..."
If Ehrhoff is willing to take 4M for 4 years. I drive Gorges to the airport if I have to.

If you drive Gorges off to the airport, you free up 3.9M. I'd add 1.6M more to have someone the caliber of Ehrhoff. At that point, we have traded Gorges, hopefully got something OK in return, and only pay 1.6M more than what we are currently to have a much much better player than Gorges. Someone who can play with Subban for the next 4-5 years.
Considering how much money Ehrhoff just got, I would think that a 4M would be enough for him and I think Ehrhoff would be that that D partner you're talking about Subban.

I know I shouldn't be optimistic but our forward core going into next season is currently a tad bare. Can't help but feel we've got 2-3 signings lined up. Hopefully a Briere trade to Buffalo too since they need a lot of cap to hit the floor.

Gorges is a bottom pair defenseman playing top 4 minutes and getting paid like one... besides blocking shots, he brings absolutely nothing else to the table on the ice therefore not worth his pay or ice time given to him... he has a below average first pass, he is an ok skater, he is not big or physical nor does he have an nhl shot....glad MB finally see's this
He is what he is a PK specialist and nothing more than a 5th defenseman
Emelin does more than Gorges that is measurable...we pay Gorges for his blocked shots, and some leadership intangibles...Emelin when given a shot will play the PP and actually score...Good luck getting a top 4 dman for less than 3.9, especially in free agency. I'd settle for one.
Centre has been the biggest need for nearly 2 decades, still is.
I don't think any team that's been to the finals in the last 5-6 years pays any pure defensive defenseman 4 mil. Regehr is the only one and he was sat most of the playoffs. Heck I don't think most of these teams even dress guys who are as incompetent at moving the puck as Gorges.
Marc Staal last season.

Erhoff is a nice player and all but what does he bring at this point that we don't already have in Subban, Beaulieu and Markov?
I personally think the defense is already far too expensive and there needs to be some serious money invested in the forward positions.
Marc Staal isn't even remotely incompetent with the puck. He was even on the Rangers first PP unit before McDonagh outplayed him.
Yeah I know, it's more wishful thinking on my part. Maybe with Montreal's recent success, Ehrhoff could accept that kind of money to be on a winning team?Looking at Lecavalier and Briere, I see no reason for Ehrhoff to settle on anything low. Less cash than Emelin? I doubt it.
Beaulieu is a kid. We don't know just how he'll turn out and he still has to be sheltered.
And I don't get it, what would someone like Markov (so Boyle let's say but at a younger age) bring that we didn't already have? Who cares man. Having more guys like Markov is a good thing, not a bad thing. Guys that are good at defending and moving the puck up are always useful, no matter how many you have.
