Last night's tempo was insanely fast. For a season opener like that, off the charts speed by both teams. Very glad Fleury didn't look out of place in that type of environment because that's a huge step up from the ahl. Apart from that void on the left side the defense looked pretty good. Hurricanes have some huge forwards and it's a good thing our defense is finally capable of being physical. Weber, Chiarot, Petry, Fleury were all physical and they will need to play like that all year to compensate our forwards being so small. Even Armia made a big deference last night, he was very effective down low and along the boards.

Was a bit surprised by the pace and intensity, pleased to see that. Could have gone either way,2 of the caines goals were re-directs and on the PP,more or less.

Carolina has 2 players on forward over 200lbs where the Habs have 4.

right there is the problem, the comparitive standard. it should be against 3rd line NHL wingers, it shouldnt be against the dumpster fire that has been his tenure as a hab. Because if it is you are loweing the bar to say that anything above it is acceptable.

if you want to say he played BETTER than last season, fine by me. I agree with this. but if you want to say that he played good, then he would have have to have played better than 51% of NHL 3'rd line wingers. I watched EVERY SECOND of the game last night, I am not convinced he made the cut. He was somewhere between not bad and not good,
No matter your comparative standards he played well last night.

Maybe so. But they don't look like they have a lot of guys under 6 feet in that lineup.

Well, it's so absurd that I have to admit I am.

Take Danault's and Thompsons career years, combine them and they barely outscore Domi last season, with less goals. Yet somehow theyre both getting more ice. How does anyone justify this ?

Thre is something not quite right with Domi since the beginning of the camp.... I dunno what it could be. Is he pissed off to have lost Shaw as his RW and best friend ? Is he fully healthy despite his diabities (?) .... He is not creating much and doesn't seem as involved as last season.

Can we maintain it? As ever? Like sometimes day in. But in times, some day off, right... Basically, how that works?

saying well without saying compared to what is aking to saying " diet dr pepper takes more like dr pepper"

I dont want to bemoan this but there IS a fundamental difference between playing better and playing good. if you want to conflate the two, have at it. but at least admit they measure different things.

or don't admit it.

I only got to listen to the first period on radio and then saw the third period + OT. Three of the biggest question marks for me going into this season where how Drouin, Kotkaniemi, and Fleury were going to do, and I thought each of them had good games from what I saw and heard.

And I like what Armia adds to the 3rd line.

It's just one game, but overall it's a promising start on the road against a good team where both teams deserved at least one point.

I didn't see it that way last night.
He didn't have his best game because he wasn't involved but rather seemed to be trying to do too much at times, going for the extra move or forcing a pass at improper times.
Not worried whatsoever in his case though. Still you could see the chemistry between him and Suzuki.

SO is a coin flip. I mean DD was a shoot out specialist and scored some big SO goals.

Its 50/50 and either you look like a genius or a doofus. Outside of going with guys with good % there isn't much to it. And heck we used Byron who has a good % and he didn't score.

Shit happens. If they miss on the first shot things end up different. Thats a shootout for you.
