Why did Peumpel get an Unsportsmanlike conduct?
(watching the world series)

When Puempel got flattened along the boards, his helmet came off and instead of heading to the bench, he went after the guy who creamed him and he got 2 for roughing and the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was for his helmet off and not going off the ice.

Much better game tonight. Defense kept Milwaukee to the outside for most of the game. Penalty kill improved big time. Ericsson was clearing guys away from the net and not playing a 2nd goalie like he did in Detroit. Got into a brief scuffle in the 2nd period and was very involved in the play. Pickard left some juicy rebounds, but the d-men did a great job clearing them out and making sure the Admirals did not pounce on the rebounds.

Rasmussen looked dominant. If he can figure out how to use his body like he did tonight in the NHL he'll be a force down the middle for us.

Ras has to learn to keep his head up in the neutral zone as a pro. Two different occasions in tonight's game that the Admirals got him pretty good and he was shaken up both times. He also has to learn to be better at face-offs. Griffins consist weakness so far this season is winning draws, especially on special teams. The rest of his game is coming around well so far.

I understand shooters aren't going to score all the time, but how does Zadina skate an entire game and not record a shot on net? He should at least be getting 4 or 5 shots a game in the AHL whether they go in or not. Is he getting decent ice time? How does Veleno look so far, cause his stats suck at the moment. How hard can it really be to put up pts in a lower league than the NHL, rookies or not?

Zadina looked more threatening without the puck and when he has the puck, he brings players in on him and he made a couple of great passes to set up his teammates who had the better chance to score than he did. Z also tried to make things on his own and he got in trouble a couple of times, but the D bailed him out. Much improved on his fore-checking this season compared to last season and he has caused the other team to cough up the puck. He is starting to become a much better overall forward. Sure you will not find him on the scoresheet scoring goals and assisting a lot right now, but it will come.

Veleno is doing fine. Learning the pro game right now. Skates well and he and Z have a chemistry together. Was with Elson on their line for most of the game tonight. Just have to be patient with both guys right now. It is not easy to put up points in the AHL. Very few players (5 last season) end up with a point + per game when the AHL season is said and done (based on 65+ games played).

Not expecting point per game really, especially not Veleno, but 5 and 6 games and no points is pretty concerning to me for scoring level players.

From the way the announcers were talking, it sounded like the Griffs were dominating the faceoff dot.

The Zadina shot thing is weird to me as well. Zadina might just be a guy who needs to be up playing with better players or something to get shots on net. Last year he had more shots in his 9 game stint with Detroit than he did in the previous 15 or 20 games (cant remember exactly) with Grand Rapids.

I'm starting to get concerned but at the same time its just the start of the season and hes playing with a rookie center.

My guess is they call up a vet for the press box and play Ehn.

This is what they should do. Let Rasmussen keep dominating offensively and working on his center game. Since its just a short, fourth line type of role I wouldnt mind seeing Smith get a couple games for his good start/improved play over the course of the last season, maybe he provided a spark or something but not if its more than a couple games, hes been good offensively to start as well and needs to keep it going. Play Ehn on the fourth line and let Svech have more mins that Glendening would've had is what likely happens. Svech has earned them with his play in the two games hes played and hes a bit older anyways.

How's the lineup lately?

Terry - Rasmussen - Puempel
MacLeod - Pearson - Kuffner
Elson - Turgeon - Shine
Veleno - Zadina (11 forwards)

Lashoff - Lindström
Ericsson - McIlrath
Hicketts - Seider
Saarijärvi

Pickard/Larsson

Kaski and Givani Smith were off from last game. Rest? injuries?

Veleno and Zadina getting 4th line minutes and no PP ?

My favorite quote
“You’ve still gotta teach him — there are some ins and outs and little details that will help him — but he understands it. He knows if he screwed up,” Macdonald said. “If he makes a mistake, I haven’t seen him make the same mistake again. He doesn’t seem to duplicate it later on. If he learns it, he sees it, and then he’s like, ‘OK,’ and then next time he does what he can to correct it. It’s great.”

Wonder what was the idea for 7 defencemen, there's still guys like Lukosevicius, Ford as healthy scratches.

Other games they have gone with 6 guys at D.

Ford was the veteran scratch. They will be rotating that again this season with Ericsson now in GR. They sent Loggins down to Toledo the other day to make room as well. Lukosevicius is our extra forward and he is rotating with MacLeod for now for playing time.

Ericsson will most likely play either tonight or tomorrow night, but not both nights. They want do not want him to push himself right away.
