Both Robby Fabbri and Anthony Mantha are requesting trades out of Detroit. Both are currently RFAs so they will consider offer sheets as well.

Offer sheets will be handled by me

I signed Reinhart at 7.2 for 8 years. I see Mantha as a slightly better player so that cap hit feels about right

And that contract is bonkers. Particularly in a flat cap environment. Teams aren't going to be throwing around cap like that.

When Dylan Larkin is signed at $6.1m internally over term, he sets the bar internally for RFAs who produce less than him.

Why do you think David Pastrnak only signed for $6.8m in Boston? A team's internal cap situation matters.

Also, 'a career high of 48 points' is extremely misleading. McDavid had 48 points in his rookie season, he was definitely not a 40-point player. Mantha was on pace for over 70 points this year. Obviously staying healthy has to be addressed, but Mantha's definitely worth more than his career high in points suggests.

Post cap, it is stated above the projections

I also don't believe the flat cap with have as much of an impact as you think. Maybe on the lower end contracts, sure, but not for talent like Mantha.
I think it'll have a massive impact. I think we'll see teams signing shorter deals because there's no guarantee the cap goes up significantly bend those three years.

Planning for three years of payroll is chaotic enough on it's own considering you have to leave room for ELC raises. I don't see teams--particularly ones like Detroit--frivolously throwing around dollars in an uncertain cap situation.
