That’s kind of my point, though - play him. If you’re dressing him, give him some rope. Let’s see some actual minutes so we can properly judge him.

And yes, if he’s not going to get minutes, then give Rathbone a shot. I don’t think it helps the defense as a whole to have a member of it playing only 7 minutes and basically forcing you to go with 5 D.

Likley political.

OJ needs to be in the NHL or GMJB loses his job, doesn't mean TG has to play him. I think that is where they are at.

There's a bunch of politics informing the roster right now. Every season starts this waay. Juolevi is once piece.

Giving Virtanen a healthy raise over keeping Toffoli/Leivo is another. Can't let a high pick go unqualified.

Can't healthy scratch Roussel, Sutter, or Beagle - none of those 3 have ever been healthy scratched and it always takes a while to get there with one of Jim's marquee UFA signings. Remember game 1 against Minnesota - Gaudette was scratched to make room for all 3 of them. 33 points in 59 games Gaudette! Shameful.

Juolevi is on his way out the door, he's getting the Micheal Ferland diminishing minutes treatment. They'll eventually bench Roussel to get Eriksson (legimately a better PKer) into the lineup. But damage will be done on the way there.

We really got to watch Bennings transactional talent and asset bleed in action tonight.

Let's look at the transaction matchup: Benning gifts to Calgary vs what Benning received instead

Calgary:
Tkachuk
Andersson
Markstrom
Tanev

What Benning got from Calgary in return:
Juolevi
Hamonic
Baertschi (minors)
Myers (debatable but sealed Tanev's fate when he signed)

LOL

This just creates another hole in the top 4. Can you imagine how much Edler and Hamonic would get walked? Either that, or they would collapse towards the net and give the shooter too much space. Edler is just too slow and disengaged to carry a top 4 pairing anymore, and Hamonic certainly isn't quick enough to make up for that.
That’s a big part of the problem. We have two top pairing defencemen and no one else good enough to pair up with either one of them.Tanev is gone so we can pay Brother Loui 6M to watch from the press box,Edler’s game has fallen off a cliff, and Myers and Hamonic are now bottom pairing guy who shouldn’t be in the top 4 of any contending team. The rest are AHL or 7/8 depth guys which is kinda expected.

Like another poster said, might as well give Rathbone a shot and see what he can do.

Also would be nice if we have some cap space when Tryamkin’s KHL gig is up and he’s willing to take another shot at the NHL.He has to be better at defending than Joulevi.

Calgary also signed Leivo who had an assist tonight because they had the extra cap room to do so.

Also...don't forget that Benning STOLE Markus Granlund from the Flames for Hunter Shinkaruk, what a transaction!!

There's plenty of glue in that foundation of Sutter's.

Jimmy got his first whiff of that glue when he was scouting the prairies for Boston way back. Once he shared this information with Mr Aquilini, boom - Sutter was a Canuck.

When Jimmy and Mr Aquilini put their heads together, that's when the magic happens...

Ok but where is Hunter now? For years Granlund provided us 10-15 minutes of ice time he totally definitely 100% deserved consisting of lackluster offensive/terrifying defensive hockey, we clearly won the trade. Hunter didn't provide either of those things.

Not a lot of good overall tonight. Only got to watch the 2nd period but on the first goal, Sutter lets Gaudreau just walk in. 2nd goal, Virtanen (and the rest of the team) is puck watching and all down too low. Both goals were really bad coverage by the forward group. 3rd goal, just another bad circumstance... but back breaker for sure.

Otherwise, Harmonic looked decent given expectations. Hughes still looked ok but at the end of the day, our point producers aren't producing and our bottom six is just awful. Myers also just slow as a rock and doesn't have the positioning to overcome his lack of footspeed.

I'm not quite on the 'tank' side yet but just finally peaking at the calendar... oh boy. If my empathy for them was previously because they were tired, well... they're in trouble.

You mean Granlund COSTED US 10-15 minutes of ice time ... time that is now forever lost and that could have been given to ... i dunno.... developing a prospect maybe while actually rebuilding the team?

We are in a real mess.

Jimmy dun gone and fixed us real good. All of his clever moves culminating in a colossal clusterfak. Unfortunately Aquaman isn’t any brighter. I wonder if we’ll eventually do what the Avs did in their rebuild - have two cycles, the second of which begins for us now where we have another couple of bad years, picking up some more top picks while undoing Jimmy Neutrons’ mess.

Strong start (16-4 on shots, coulda had several but only amounted to one goal.

Once the Flames pressed we had no answer. Parade of penalties did not help either.

That’s the difference a Markstrom can make, he kept them in it when the game probably coulda been done after one. As some have said we’re seeing how bad this team can be without him bailing us out every night.

To make up for his loss we were banking on Petey and Huggy taking another step, but they’ve been off to a slow start so far.
