Some pretty standard Leafs hate going on in this thread.
When Avery "suckerpunched" Smid, there were tons of people calling it a suckerpunch even though Smid had dropped his gloves.
Same thing happens to Kulemin, and every non-Leafs fan says he deserved it.
Yes, Kulemin put himself in a vulnerable situation, but every guy that's been in a fight knows that you gotta make sure the other guy is a willing combatant. The guys who jump the gun (like Jordin Tootoo often did earlier in his career) are criticized for taking advantage of situation where the opponent is unprepared to defend himself.
Yes, Kulemin was squared up. Yes, he had thrown some gloved punches. But, did Gleason know that he was taking advantage of an unprepared opponent when he dropped his gloves and swung? I don't think there is any question that he did.
But, typically, opposing fans are glad to see it, because it's Leafs player that has a broken face.
Not even one fan out there willing to concede that it was at least a little dirty? Big surprise.
