Glad for you guys, never like to see a player getting hurt, thank god for those Kevlar socks

Great news that he's fine though, look forward to seeing him on the ice against us tomorrow :)

who was the hurricanes player who helped Giroux on the bench?

if that's what it looks like with kevlar socks, which looks like they saved his career

Well time to buy stock in Kevlar socks and neck guards....if it looked that bad with the socks imagine what it would look like without them.

Giroux is one of the game's great players and I'm happy to hear this isn't as serious as it could've been.

I enjoy watching him get shut down by McDonagh-Girardi too much and am glad I'll be able to watch it happen a few more times this year.

Considering he is OK the comments at the start are entertaining in their own right.

Devastating! Prayers for all involved! etc :)

Good news for everybody, but especially for McEichel challengers. Philly would be a hell of a competition for them without Claude Giroux.

Yep, here is a lineup map of 'who has played decent to good hockey this year':

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Laughton-Simmonds
xxxxx-Couturier-xxxxx
xxxxx-Bellamare-xxxxx

xxxxx-Streit
Schultz-xxxxx
xxxxx-xxxxx
MDZ

Mason

Hard to do well when the majority of the D has sucked. And without Giroux it would basically be: Voracek, Simmonds, the kids, Old man Streit and Mason vs the world.

Coburn has not been awful either, but he is in over his head.

The D is just terrible, cannot move the puck and cannot defend.

We have quite a lot of good pieces up front, and most are playing as expected or above... the D is just monumentally bad.

The worst thing this year though is the PK... they changed the strategy and it went from top 10 to the worst, and yet the coach is still insisting they should continue to be super-aggresive. If the PK had been ~average the Flyers would be around the wildcard spots now if you look into the numbers.

Can you imagine if he was not wearing the kevlar socks? Would have been horrific, Flyers and more importantly Giroux dodged a major bullet.

League should look closer into ways of preventing this injury.

What more can they do? The Kevlar socks are the best available protection and at this point it's on the players to choose to wear them. Freak accidents are always a risk when sharp skates are involved.

Let's thank the sports scientists that created technology that reduce a career ending injury to a missed game.
