Do overzealous goalie pulls annoy anyone else?

It used to be that a goalie is pulled down 2 at the most. Sometimes but very rarely you saw three goals down. I still remember from my first season watching the Rangers in 00-01 the Rangers were losing 5-2 to the Devils they pulled their goalie and Chico Resche was like "I've seen goalies pulled one goal down and two goal downs but I've never seen a goalie pulled three goals down." Now three goals down is common place. And I know this was an elimination game and Cooper was probably like YOLO but the Lightning pulled their goalie FOUR (!!!) goals down. As a fan I hate it, it results in many more embarrassing losses for no gain as no one's coming back down 4 goals with 4 minute left to play especially in the playoffs.

I’m indifferent. Think I heard there was a study that said early pulls were more effective. Probably why coaches are doing it more these days.

What annoys me more is Overzealous early whistles when refs lose sight of the puck, a refs f***in sightline shouldn’t dictate play.

And the subsequent empty net goals provide more useless stat padding and longer, drawn-out games (gotta show 3-4 replays of the ENG and celebration).

Most particularly troublesome if I took the under on the Fan Duel odds at the top of my screen

But did you bet on the tendy to put up a great wall of pillows?

What's the worst case scenario if you pull your goalie when down by 3? You get scored on and lose? There's no reason to not pull the goalie in that situation other than risking the loss appearing worse than it actually was on a scoresheet.

I get the idea but where's the line? There's no risk at pulling your goalie down 10-0 either.

The line is drawn where you think you can pull off a miracle. If you're down 3-4 goals with 5 minutes left and you have a guy on the team who just put up over 140 points in the regular season, then why not try it? Hell, pull the goalie earlier to give yourself more time.

I will concede that pulling the goalie multiple times and getting scored on multiple times while your team contributes little push back does look stupid.

I dunno… the math might not agree with me here, but hockey sense tells me that with a 4-goal deficit you’re better off trying to get that first goal with five skaters.

Pulling your goalie in that situation is not going to have the same effect as pulling him in a 1-goal game. The players’ psychological state is completely different.

You do what it takes to win the game. No.

I'd rather my coach pull the goalie with 5-6 mins left down 3 goals than give up and not pull him at all.

Gentlemen, a short view from the past:

In 2017 the Ducks of Anaheim were down 3-0 against the Oilers with 3:16 left on the clock. Ducks won that game 4-3 in OT after pulling the goalie thrice during those 3 minutes 16 seconds and scoring 3 goals.

It can work.

A Patrick Roy innovation. Used to be down by 1, you send the goalie around 1:30, 2 minutes, maybe a little more if down by 2. Never 3 or more. But Roy started doing it, everyone said he was crazy, and it worked more than twice, so now everyone's doing it. Even if a conventional down by 1 or 2, probably closer to 3 minutes down by 2, 2 minutes if down by 1 these days. Looks silly when you do it too early and don't even get zone time before the other team gets the EN. Pours cold water on any comeback.

Roy was a bit of a freak. He’d pull the goalie with 10 minutes left in a game and likely out of frustration.
