Horvat's game was the most impressive. It felt like he was on a mission to prove something to fans on home ice after what happened to Pettersson on the road. I hate that nobody reacted to that Pettersson attack, but Horvat was aggressive today. Hard on the forecheck, couple big hits, and he didn't hesitate to drop the gloves. Definitely had a captain-like game.

Overall, team looks good for what they are. Need strong goaltending, not much offence available. The 5 man unit of Roussel/Sutter/Eriksson/Edler/Tanev locked up the best line in the NHL, that is impressive. With Pettersson, Horvat, Boeser, Baertschi freed up to score goals, we could be a tough team to beat when we're healthy. Key word, healthy.

Canucks skating in quicksand with this one....like the seventh game of their roadtrip after only a day back in Vancouver. Credit Markstrom and that tenacious 'bend but don't break' team defense. But man do they miss Pettersson.

Another strong game by Goldy and liked Virtanen as well. Young players are coming on.

Horvat has like the best player progression since hes been drafted. There hasnt been one season since hes been drafted where he hasnt showed something new lol. And we were upset we traded Schneider for a 3rd line C.

I can't believe people have suggested possibly trading Horvat in multiple scenarios. This is not a player that you trade. He is someone you win with
What's funny is that people were calling him not a captain material simply because he said he was happy with a W after the Panthers game....like WTF, player cant be happy after a W???

And agree, you dont trade Horvat even if we get Jack Hughes, you play the 3rd best C out of Elias Bo and Jack on your third line and become a team that is stupidly deep at center

Yep, and can load up two PP units and dont always have to start the PP1 if the other unit is more rested

Schneider is slowly losing his starting job in New Jersey due to injury, the guy is 32 and still has 4 years on his contract

Agreed. He’s taken a big step every year.
Remember when his skating was pretty awful?
He’s got great wheels now.
Five goals in 8 games. I can see him breaking 30 goals and putting up 65-70 points this year.

The Horvat of tonight is legitimately a better player than we saw last year. The fear has always been that he would stagnate (which is fair - he hadn't made noticeable progress in the 100 or so games before this).

Botchford pointed this out in the Athletties, but he actually looks better defensively too. That was a Pettersson-like back check on Marchand.

Entertaining game.

The defense struggles to get the puck forward with conrol. With Tanev and Edler doing the heavy lifting the rest of the group suck at pushing forward and making a quality first pass. Hutton backed in too much on the goal.

Incredible game from the shut down group. (Sutter Roussel Eriksson Edler Tanev)

Horvat set the tone and finished it off. He's really elevating his game this year so far.

Boeser is getting better with almose every game...give him a pass in Winnipeg as many of the guys were gassed.

Goldobin is legit. Made multiple dangerous offensive plays again and looks to be a nice top6 fixture going forward. looking forward to him and EP reuniting soon.

You guys dump on Granlund but he's been excellent and provides a tone of utility. Last year he fell off a cliff in mid Novemeber so we'll see how that goes.

Gaudette still struggles in the neutral zone and thats a big reason why Green is giving him cautious minutes. Similar issues with Jake although his are mostly in the offensive zone, his passing needs to be quicker and on the tape. Both these guys need to reduce the amount of times they are the last one with the puck before the opposition gets it to get more ice.

Markstrom was solid and gave them the opportunity to win. Goaltending since Carolina has not been an issue

I've liked what I've seen from Goldobin for the most part but the dude has got to start burying his chances. One goal in 8 games.

Few players with good games but a lot of the team looked bagged. Hanging by a thread thru the second half of the game and probably really didn't deserve the win. However, good push in OT and showed some resiliency overall.

Good

Sutter - had tough task handling the Bergeron line but, in the main, did well. Also good on the PK and even provided some offense.

Goldobin - best aspect is that he is starting to show some speed and getting himself some separation and space to make plays. Some excellent set ups (especially to Boeser) and looked dangerous around the net. Also his defensive awareness seems significantly improved. His development is so crucial to the team and games like this give you hope. Best Canuck forward in this game IMO

Edler - another strong game. Backbone of the team right now. Tanev also played a good game

Markstrom - outstanding. Really the reason they won.

Horvat - you wonder what his top end is. Times like this game and you maybe see him being better than being your typical NHL #2 center.

Bad

Granlund - sagged tonite after looking ok recently. Not that he does something horrible just that there is so little positive when he is like this. Back in his end a lot just trying to get thru the shift. Very little jump in his skating and can't carry the puck. Lack of strength and quickness hurt him in puck battles tonight

Baertschi - play just died with him. Needs to be at max to play well and play falls off drastically when he tires. Very in and out with his performances. Thought he got shoved out of the play too easily and was not good in transition. When he did get a chance to provide something, he didn't.

Gudbranson - got off to a bad start and did a lot fumbling with the puck which allowed Bruins to set up a strong forecheck. Just too much sloppy play

Pouliot - like others you can't get consistency with this player. After showing improvement, he looked slow in both skating and puck movement and ended chasing around his end. Like others had no chance of holding the play at his line.

Schaller - out of sync in this game. Very poor tempo in his play. Got standing when he should have been in the play and then chasing when he should have been positioning in the forecheck or maintaining position in the defensive end.

Others

Boeser - most heartening sign in this game was the way Boeser was moving in this game. Showed some of the quickness and smart use change of pace that he showed last year. On couple of rushes looked like the player we saw in the past. He blew too many chances and had enough trouble in his end to actually call him good. Still the chances are coming. Nice play in OT.

Gaudette - some shifts he looks like he is going to start helping in the near term, others when you think he needs a fair amount of time in Utica. I think showing enough to believe he will be productive at this level.

Roussel - game in and game out he is doing the right thing. Shows some NHL polish in his game. Has good wheels and does go the net well.

Stecher - have to like the hustle in his game but as of now he is very, very limited offensively. Can never seem to get his shot thru and hugs the offensive blue line. Never seems to be able to earn or get space in the offensive end to make a play.

Hutton - can't hold the blue line even a bit. Is , however, pushing the play up ice better and generally keeping the play to the outside. He remains , at best , a marginal NHL player.

Expected this season to be an absolute shambles but so far not close that.
