nah, he's an NHLer, he's just been given too many minutes and responsibilities. 4RW is perfect actually.

It's perfect for him to be able to unleash his monster shot from the off wing.

Seriously though, he's a 4th liner or healthy scratch. So many better options at C on the roster (Girgs, Larsson moving up, ERod).

The only place Sobotka should ever be is the press box.
I said in the roster speculation thread that I have no issue dressing him for faceoffs and Pking. The issue IMO is Housley using him as the top 6 defensive center and giving Sobotka the ice time that goes with that. If that role is going to exist then put Larsson in it. Sobotka should be a 4th line center/PKer getting under 10mins a night @ ES.

Also when Phil’s conservative streak strikes and he wants a defensive player out in big situations , like OT. Larsson is also the better option for that as well. My preference is not to be conservative there but I’m dealing with the reality Phil works from.

I have a bad feeling about the sheary-ERod-okposo line....there are some defensive problems there.

I read this as (and hoped it meant) Tage was taking a step back to Roch until his game improved for another chance with the big squad, but then I remembered Housely
Botterill decides who comes back and forth from Roch.

In other words, Sobotka isn’t hurting the team - the way he’s being used is.

Pomminville/KO/TY/VS would all be fine players to have if we had enough better players to play the important match ups and minutes (imo). And/or if the coach was very good with usage, etc. But we have neither at the moment, so these guys take all the heat.

3-2 OT win for Buffalo. Sobotka with 2 goals. Eichel, Skinner, Mitts with the other 3.
Well played

Tonight is such an immensely important game for Buffalo’s playoff chances. I have a feeling that’s going to be said quite a bit from here on out, though.

The NHL didn't use whites at home until rather late in its existence. If you add up the years of color vs white at home, it favors color at home, historically. Even if you remove the past few years it changed back to color.

In their formative years, the teams (all 6 of them) only had 1 sweater. It was colored. That's pretty much what visiting fans got to see. There was no TV. With the expansion to 12 teams, league and sweater visibility improved. For most of the modern era, NHL teams wore white (LA- wore Gold) at home. I contend that wearing white at home actually improved the design and look of the white sweater. Heck, the Sabres home white sweater has always been a better looking uni than the blue away one. (My personal opinion. Other are sure to disagree.)

Starting in 1966 and thru the early 00's, fans across the US saw visiting NHL teams in their full color jerseys. The change to wearing colored jersey's at home was the direct result of teams marketing 3rd jersey products (money making machine) and team equipment manager complaints that having to pack both home and away sweaters when on the road was a burden. Again, all because of the introduction of 3rd jerseys.

Yeah, this is soapbox issue for me and your post just serves as the catalyst. So no response or defense is expected or intended. I just don't care about 3rd jersey's anymore. I want a return to home whites. Esp. after the Sabres last 3rd jersey monstrosity......

My sentiments as well. Sobatka should regarded as a "limited scope specialist" only be on the ice when the situation warrants it. Like on the PK. He has not merited a regular rotation much less the amount of ice time Housley gives him. Erod and Larsson are pretty decent penalty killers. Plus Erod can score and Lars is a superb forechecker and a pest to boot.

It's such a non-excuse too. NBA does home whites and teams wear like 4 different colours in one season with no issues.

Only way Sobotka is out if injured which never happens to garbage players it seems.

Tough to get injured when the guy isn't willing to go to the net or put forth effort in puck battles along the walls. He floats around thinking he's a skilled perimeter player. A skilled perimeter player that hasn't scored in 3 months.

Alongside Larry and Girgs has been a safe place for our worst players. Those two managed to make Berglund, Okposo, Thompson serviceable at least.
