He took two weeks off and then came back during the playoffs.

That is more likely. After the acute phase, the blood/inflammation clears but the instability remains... Possible some players can manage it with braces and... will. ;)

Shea Weber played for months with a torn meniscus not knowing it, but again a torn ACL is something else. Respect, Jumbo Joe!

Bergeron played in the SCF with a hole on his lung, anything is possible in the playoffs

A small traumatic pneumothorax is easily fixed with a chest tube for 2-3 days. The impressive part about Bergeron is playing with the broken ribs. The dude is a tough ***.

Yeah, I've seen guys play with torn ACL/PCLs a couple weeks after with the bigger braces. Definitely slows you down, but it's possible.

Anyways, would be shocked if EP has anything more than a hyperextension. The way he got tangled isn't really how you tear ligaments.

Absolutely gutted about the EP news. Can only hope for the best and so far it sounds like he avoided the worst.

Have tickets for the game Saturday and was so excited to see Petey. Guess I'll have to wait until next year.

It always amazes me that skiers compete with fully torn ACLs.....athletes are crazy.

...Canada, eh?
Some injuries can’t be prevented, but anyone who thinks that having multiple mean/tough players who other players are afraid of wouldn’t help protect Pettersson is straight up delusional.

Pettersson is the entire franchise, fielding a few players who inspire fear into other players and serve as a deterrent from people messing with him is the absolute minimum they can do.

Thing is, we don't have anyone who does this or could do this.

Roussel is an agitator. Gudbranson is actually dangerous in a fight but never wants to fight... so who else fits that mold on this roster at all? Schaller?

Virtanen is willing to scrum and Horvat can throw a punch when he wants to... but they don't fit that mold you are talking about.

So... if we look outside who do we get then? Do they actually play hockey? There's not a lot of room for enforcers these days... I don't want to see Petey cheapshotted either, but what legitimate NHL players in the league today fit the mold you are talking about?

Are we talking Lucic? Is he actually making people go easy on McDavid? It's hard to protect your stars when you're never on the ice when their line is... and it's not actually protecting anything if the response only comes after an incident.

That's it? Geez, these things do happen. It's a slippery environment. Definitely a penalty but no need for anyone to hammer the guy's skull for it.

By the way, for those who have mentioned it, Kotkaniemi's comment from a few weeks ago was also pretty clearly a joke/gentle ribbing.

Hope EP's okay. Going to a game in a few weeks and not much point without him there. Plus I just hope he's okay for it's own sake, of course.

This is a tough one. Gretzky had Semenko in a different era. Because of concussion consequences, the league has frowned on fighting, and of course, the instigator rule discourages retaliation. That's all fine and well, provided the refs are upholding the rules of the games - for all players, not just the stars.

That was an interference call at minimum on Kotkid (came at EP from behind, who didn't have the puck). He may not have intended to injure EP, but he sure as hell knew who he was bringing down.

Thumbs up to Granny for giving Kotkid a little surprise. Hope EP is okay, that's what matters.

Everyone pumped that TG doesn’t think it’s that serious. Remember this is the organization that said Juolevi wouldn’t need surgery 3 weeks before his season ending surgery , picked up Mason Raymond with a broken neck, Brock Boeser with a broken back ....

Can’t trust this group / medical staff.

It's not so much about having a single big scary ogre that people are worried will hurt them as it is about having players with the ability, and - more importantly - the willingness to ramp things up to the point where players know they're going to be responsible for their teammates being repeatedly put through the boards for the rest of the game if they cross the line. There are teams that you know you don't want to wake up, and there are teams that you know you can do whatever the hell you want. It has always been this way. Acting like the only type of pushback or deterrent is a goon is overly simplistic, and probably obtuse.

You need to talk to your patients several months post trauma...I just assessed a guy who shattered his pelvis. The most traumatic thing was the chest tube for his hemo-pneumo thorax!!!!

Agreed that it was a penalty..but in no way was it any attempt to injure,....getting twisted around and falling on a guys leg was just random bad luck.
