Was not a fan at all of the Maroon jam play from the side of the net. Get this guy parked in front of the goalie and start unloading.

There has to be a reason why we go with this old school mentality. We need a new age, free thinker..someone that is going to let the game be open..you have the skill to do it, DO IT.
I don't know that Yeo has the mentality to milk elite talent. He is more like Hitch than most would care to admit, and his PP has always sucked.

I don't mind seeing Steen on the 2nd unit PP in the first game of the season but we have better guys for that task now. Steen is simply not a dynamic player at this point in his career.

Yeah, Yeo was good for transitioning, but I'm not seeing the evolution I want.

My answer to what?
I said a few post back that I actually thought the Blues played a solid game for most of it. Our breakdowns though were catastrophic and we allowed to to tailspin out of control.
Takeaways from tonight.
-Kids were good.
-PP Still needs a lot of work.
-Bouwmeester is a bottom pairing D-man now.
-Need to find team chemistry especially in transition out of Dzone
-Maroon is an anchor 5 on 5. 4th Line PP specialist.
-Allen was great until he wasn't. When things started going bad I saw old habits start to creep back in.

I think the talent is here, but I keep falling back on the fact that half of these guys are new.

I thought Maroon was worse on the PP than 5v5. I was down on him but expected him to bring a net-front presence. He was more of a net-adjacent presence. "Hey guys, why is nobody trying to push me out of here?" Well, Pat, because you are neither screening the goalie, nor in a position to tip the puck. All you can do is take a pass and slowly turn around to jam it into the goalies pads. To be fair though, I wouldn't be surprised if Yeo coached him to do that.

I think that is exactly it. I don't want to draw too much from one game but I have long sense been critical of Mike Yeo's PP strategies. Working the puck back to the point isn't a terrible plan but first you need to work the puck down low with lots of support to shrink the PKs box and open up more ice to work with. Yeo doesn't have us do that. He seems to have a few set plays and beyond that our strategy seems to be work the puck on the perimeter until hopefully a shooting lane opens.

Super nifty GDT intro post. Lotta work. I appreciate it. Too bad The Blues didn't play better and win the game. I don't have a good feeling about things. The forwards and Defencemen have to get together better, and reduce the gaps. They've got to get used to playing with each other, in the more intense atmosphere of the "real season". No one expected all these new players to become a tight unit by Game 1. But, I don't like what I saw tonight, nevertheless. It's only one game, and no way to predict from it, what we really have this season. I expect 2 wins over The Blackhawks in the near future, and hope The Blues get significantly better and better every game.

I did like Kyrou's and Thomas' play in this game.

Another issue is some of the overthinking...you see skilled guys on other teams just do things..instincts...looks like our guys go out of their way to do something else.

Don't let things get that bad again?
