You sell Landeskog short with the vauge description. Larssons a potential top pairing defesemen, but Landeskog is a potential first line Selke winning winger.
islanders go against thisThere are exceptions, of course (and moreso in recent years). But typically, a GM does not expect an 18 year old to step in from Day One and "fill" a current major hole on his NHL roster. For example, Larsson may be "can't miss" (wish I had a dime for every time that phrase is casually thrown around) and becomes the most talented dman in NJD's organization the moment he is drafted. Even so, Lou will not be expecting him to give him #1 dman, 30 quality minutes in every game situation starting next October. Unfair to the player and unwise planning.
since the Isles could use both anyway im hoping they end up with one of these guys....

Actually, that's very true. Which is why they are where they are. (No malice intended.)
Is this a fair comparison?
Landeskog - Dustin Brown
Larsson - Doughty
No.
Landeskog - Wing version of Mike Richards/Better Brendan Morrow
Larsson - Zach Bogosian but better/Chris Pronger-lite

Lots of interesting projections for Larsson. I don't think anyone really expects him to be Lidstrom, I hear he's more physical for one and probably doesn't have the offensive upside. Assuming the Oilers draft him I'd hope he can score 50pts and play really well defensively but I'm really skeptical when it comes to young dmen.
So lets say, hypothetically that the first 4 picks go like this:
1. Larsson
2. Couturier
3. RNH
4. Murphy
and you have 5th overall. Your team is in desperate need of a future defenseman that they can build the franchise around. You are trying to tell me that your team would bypass Landeskog and pick Siemens or Musil? Somehow I HIGHLY doubt that. It is ALWAYS BPA, especially in the first round. Teams focus on needs in the 3rd round on...usually, but never in the first.

none taken. they did right by nino sending him back to the whl and will probably do right by poulin and send him down to the ahl with dipietro back but are using hamonic as their number two defender when he could use the development in the ahl and already hurt baileys development, he never should have been in the nhl in his first year.
then tavares assumed the role of the number one center in his first year, which is ok, as long as he is surrounded with nhl talent, not a second year pro and an ahler. those players being okposo and moulson, who i love, but are depended on too much (as with tavares).
anyway, dont want to derail the thread, back to landeskog and larsson.
All this Lidstrom talk is really unfair. Hes one of the best dman to ever play the game of hockey and we are comparing Larsson to him? Come on now.
We aren't comparing Larsson to him. We are comparing Larsson's style of play to Lidstrom's.
