Reinhart did NOT file for arbitration.

I’m assuming there’s a few deals on the table, it’s just a matter of him deciding. I’m guessing there’s a couple different term options.

If there was a big gap between the two, he most likely would have filed. It also means he wants more than a year or two.
Deadline is tomorrow but thats a good sign

Wonder if they’re waiting on Barkov to pick how many years for Reinhart?

we are buying Reinhart’s prime years so a two year contract should be cheaper than three and so on

I think Zito is doing Sam first. He isn’t going to multi-task with Sasha, he’ll have all the attention…

What’s the deal with your guys cap situation next season? It appears that you’ll only have about $14m to sign 7 skaters with Barkov obviously due for a big raise. Am I missing something that would allow you guys to open up more cap space and if not is there any worry that you might lose Barkov as a UFA?

Tippett is pretty much the only potential big signing for next offseason.

Vatrano, debatable if he's even on the team come the start of this season.
Acciari, 4th liner replaced within or UFA.
Marchment, bottom6, his money depends a lot on how he does this season.
Lammikko, probably replaced from within.
Lomberg, 4th liner.
Heponiemi, cheap RFA re-sign.

Rest are depth guys making close to league minimum.

I have no worries about Sasha’s extension. I do hope that he (and Huby) do a little hometown discount like how Tampa players are doing. $9.5 million would be sweet. Not holding my breath though.

Yeah a discount would be great, but Tampa had many successful seasons and now has two Cups. We OTOH have one first round exit (against the Cup champs and following a great regular season, but still) and years of mediocrity. Barkov seems like a team guy so I hope he does give us a discount, but if he asked for 10.25 to be the highest paid guy on the team, I wouldn't blame him at all.

9.613 and its a DEAL!

seems so inconsequential, but that 0.113 is more than most blue-collar families make in a year with two adults working full time!

Barkov: "you can't really pay me less than BOB"

Maybe the negotiations with Barky will be more like this:

Barky’s side: we want 11.
Zito: And you want a cup, I need you at 9.75.
Barky: I want to make more than Bob because I’m way better than Bob.
Zito: And if we buy Bob out?
Barky: I’ll take 9.

How would you feel about that? Im curious as to whether or not Chara would have the same effect on Weegar,Ekblad, and Forsling as Jagr did with Hubby and Barkov.

Ekblad has already 7 NHL seasons under his belt. Of course you never stop learning, especially from a player like Chara. But I think he’s fine.

As for Barkov and Huberdeau, while Jagr sure had a very positive impact on them, let’s not overestimate it. Barkov and Huby were both elite prospects entering in their prime years. They were to « break out » anyways.

would a trade around kessel and vatrano with ARI retaining 50% have appeal? i know we have nice forward depth at the moment, but just thinking out loud.

i get the feeling kessel is more of a specialist and vatrano is a better for PK and is somewhat of a pest. feels like a lateral move at best

I'd do Vatrano and a 2nd for Kessel in a heartbeat. Has only 1 year left in his contract which is perfect.
